• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

oh boy,

well another of our friends saw the Jeep and saw how well the CB is working... I guess he is talking to people on the other end of the city and my group of friends are impressed... so another friend called me today and ordered that same CB and that Styker SAR-10 antenna.. I said are you going to put it on your 4X4 pick-up? ( I think he has a Toyota) he said no it's going in the El-Camino ... he has a hot rod El-Camino all built up... I said you really going to put that big ugly Stryker Antenna on the roof???? he said hell no, I'm just going to stick the magnet onto the floor in the bed behind the back window????.....

so we had the faraday discussion after that....

it's now going in the pick-up

I am having to teach my friends AKA, new "CB guys" all the things I didn't know when I got started... but I'm sure they have no idea of the cost of all the little parts to make a good working CB.
going to be a long summer for me.

One of the cleanest old-radio installs I ever heard was in oilfield days where Clays Radio Shop installed a 102” whip in a truck bed. Talked to the installing tech from a mile away (he knew my voice).

B134 Mount

I’m not advocating that which reduces bed utility, but it was impressively clear. I don’t recall details on how far back from cab. 102” plus spring (108”; 9’). Seems like that’d be 12’ clearance maybe less in the El Camino.

@prcguy has posted about using bed wall interior side, but I don’t recall how close to cab or how high on bed wall.

I didn't think you could have an antenna INSIDE the bed.. I thought the 4 walls of the bed made a Faraday cage where signals would not go in or out of the bed?? maybe my friend was smarter than me?... but sticking a magnetic mount Stryker SAR-10 on the floor of the bed???? I hardly think that would work worth a darn

Length always matters.

Wilson Antennas 305550-5 T5000 Center Loaded Mobile CB Antenna

Is, so far as I understand, that from which a Stryker SRA-10 is derived. Identical under cover.

$90 at Amazon. Parts available OTC at truckstops nationwide.

For $99 one can buy a pair of
2418505.03/ASIRIO PERFORMER 5000 3/8
without lower shaft. 5” or taller (to 44”).

Shaft by Length

Post in thread 'anyone able to get a CB antenna to work on a Jeep TJ it's like the old CJ's??'

Set up two vehicles where lower shaft is from $12 to $40.

IMO, with any private vehicle can’t go wrong with:

As it’s in all ways a vehicle upgrade. Your Chevelle or his El Camino. There’s no downside as the driver is better-equipped for today’s roads. They’re getting worse by the month.

I realize that the muscle car thing is about circling the same block over and over. Look at me. They’re not the T-Rex that’d take them down once out onto the big road (A38 Dodge).

But I wouldn't be driving three counties over for a car show with anything less, either. 2005 is dead. Buried next to 1972.

Tell him it’s a matter of “willingness” as to radio rig install complexity with genuine trade-offs.

The radio rig likeliest to get used most often is the one to have.

All that glitters (performance) is not chrome. But maybe wrap lower in paint-match + chrome spring & whip?

Am pleased you’ve gotten a few to sit up and take notice. Truck drivers start from practicality and learn to have fun. Your friends start from having fun to also keeping prized vehicles out of harms way.

On roof, mount rearwards of exact centerpoint

This is resto-mod. FM-NRC could keep comms for street racers such that Mus-twerps can’t tag along.
