If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

“. . I'm giving all this to my friend.... so far I have over $700 into his Jeep..
a good friend is worth a 100 times that “

I’ve got more than that sitting here in bags & chests. Stuff that didn’t work out (that time), and some questionable acquisitions. Figured I might make some friends if I started to detail my experience.

A good man — on the road, and all of us far from home — is worth 100X my expense if he and some of the rest of us have High Q radio rigs.

I speak for many of us in admiration of your determination to kick Jeep in the hiney and make it work.

Gonna be a bookmarked thread in the future if not already.

In SoCal one needs a trained two-way radio pro.

In New England, hand it off to The Plumber.

I was looking at the tail light bracket... if installed correctly it should ground plane as good as a ball mount???? ....but there is still no flat metal on the jeep to reflect as a ground plane...... but if you look at this guy using a larger than suggested bolt.... I would think that big tail light bracket would work pretty good compared to the Ball mount.
seeing that link didn't work I'll try again
this guy drills a larger hole in the tub to get the tail light mount to work

I'm trying..... I think I've had Success with that Styker SAR-10 on the hood... even on the corner of the hood...it worked no matter what direction he was travelling in.... that 63 inch whip was in the clouds!! I'm sure it will hit every drive thru .... ( just like mine does)

he was happy on the way home watching the little blue light and thought it was cool as hell and told me over the air.....( damn I forgot to look so I've never even seen my own antenna's blue light)

he went to sleep happy until his hot school teacher wife woke him with "what the heck is that ridiculous thing on your jeep hood?"
he had to agree.... and so do I.

so I'm still pushing for the Larsen CB-27 as now I'm sure it will work in that same location.... but he wants to try everything possible for the tail light mount first....

I've heard good things about the 74" Red Devil antenna I'm planning on using... and we used it before we had a ground plane and got 9 miles to my base station
( if he was facing the correct direction... ) facing the wrong direction only got us 2.5 miles

so I'm looking at other Antenna's to try on the Tail light mount ... I even bought the dreaded 5' Firestick... ( I almost hate myself now) which will arrive from Walcott's in April.

I'm willing to try this Sirio 5000 performer 3/8" but with the base load being right against the back of the jeep??? will it perform ok????? I like the 77" height as it will get 4 feet 6 inches above the jeep.... I know they have a shaft that can raise it... but we're not going any higher.. it's already too high.
I also think the whip will be better for the trails he goes on compared to anything fiberglass.

SlowMover.... this is your expertise, what do you think? should I try it?

also I see the Sirio 5000 performer can be mounted on a flat surface with a 1/2" hole.... so I guess we could put a Sirio on the hood instead of the Larsen CB27...... I like the not in your face look of the Larsen........ if I have my pick.

On the FREIGHTLINER Cascadia Evo I had to buy several sets of $$ SS shafts to get the coil away from the A-pillar to be able to run the S5K 3/8 near vertical. The 44” was what worked.

IMG_4038.jpeg

With whip bottomed at 43” they were 93” tall (7.75’, or over a foot taller than start point even after whip cuts from 71’) a height that doesn’t count the stud shown (measured just now); or, just above 14’ stationary as shown above (height of trailer was 13’2”).

Best big truck antenna system I’ve had, but it was quite expensive by the end when every single part of antenna & coax system accounted. I also paid a tech to install coax as I knew his work. Right at $600 given (3) RF Filters plus a number to represent my 3/4” RF Bonds.

I never ran out of antenna.

The SS shaft adds weight once one extends them. I’d have a genuine HD mount as it’s a heavy antenna by any definition.

This was an almost exclusively Great Plains truck job, so height impediments weren’t a concern.

I’m always glad to recommend this antenna. And a mid-coil definitely the performer vs other types. Quote from review:

“ I am a OVERSIZED pilot car driver and I was catching another team coming in the opposite direction a good 10-15 miles away.

No one else in my crew could hear them, but I was able to, and we found a wide spot on the narrow road we were on to allow them to go by.”

(That’s an ordinary day when you Do It Right).

But on the back of a Jeep?

well I thought if I could screw the 3/8 into the tail light bracket.. it would only be up 77 inches off the tail light.... but it sounds like having the coil next to the back of the jeep will be an issue.

nice looking truck and set up!

thanks SlowMover

I knew it!
I have a group of 10 friends, my friend with the jeep was visiting one of our other friends showing off his new CB... our other friend now wants the same Radioddity CS-47 and he loves the look and performance of the Stryker SAR-10.... so I have another truck to do!
so I just looked up the cheapest place to get the Stryker SAR-10..... Walmart has it for $98.86 I will not be recommending my Tram anymore now that you can get the Stryker for such cheap money. Stryker for $98.86
and he can get the Radioddity CS-47 for $75.99 at Amazon so for under $200.00 bucks he will have a pretty decent set up..... I'll have to talk my friend into all the other Gizmos to go with it...

we used to all live in the same town and all 10 of us had a CB.... these two friends now live 18.50 miles from me... too far for AM but they live less than two miles apart from each other.... so they will have a ball! I'm sure every time one of them is going to a bar or restaurant, which they do daily, they will be calling out on the CB's like the old day's

hey, it's 1985 AGAIN!!!!!

Then it’s oneupsmanship as to who’s the first to sneak an RM ITALY KL203 & 27/586 into the coax.

He’s upgraded his radio rig performance with this, he says. And this.

“Radials, baby!”

“Static control”!

Next week he can turn up the heat AGAIN with the same coax they use in Air Force One he got from a friend of a friend at L3 Communications!

IMG_7567.jpeg

A few more weeks, and with a chrome-cased alternator “puts out more with sine-wave stability” (subtly deepens voice pitch):

Keep up this game . . and it really will be 1985 AGAIN!
