Hi John,

Took 10-20 times as long to type the narrative as it did to create, program, and upload the 3 new systems to the scanner.

Switching to Discovery Mode, as a result, I. can only analyse 1 System at a time..Will run each TRS for 24 hours.

Thanks,
Rob

Sorry for my delay. I now have more than 24 hours on each of the three Systems that I described in an earlier post. I was all set up to zip and attach multiple files for Forum examination. However, I ran up against the 195.3.KB limit on attachments. Dozens of these files are wave files and dozens are data (don't remember the extension). About 10% of the data files are "over the limit" (zipped), but I seem to be able to separate the data (before zipping) and rename the new files. A much higher % of the wave files (maybe 80%+), are "over limit", and I see no way to cut them up. The process of dividing and renaming the data files requires having many windows open which, for me, is nearly mind-boggling. I can see this taking several days, mostly to check and recheck against mistakes. File name confusion (pilot error) is the controlling time factor.

Later,
Rob

I finished zipping the 24 hour results of what I called the System "APS OLD"

From a previous post:

"In my primary FL (Home 1), I observed that I had the APS System programmed in previously. It has probably been in the scanner more than three years. I renamed the System APS (OLD). This old APS System only had one (1) Department (APS). This Department (APS) has three (3) Channels. They are APS Field Operations, APS Field Operations, and APS Transmission Maintenance. I set all 3 channels to Avoid Off. This System is showing 28 Sites. I avoided all except the three (3) named Aguila (Maricopa), Oatman Mountain (Maricopa), and Shaw Butte (Maricopa)."

and

"Using the Analysis function of the HP-1 (E), and analyzing the three (3) Sites being used for all three System scans, I determined that I am receiving a signal only from the Shaw Butte Site. I now have avoided all Sites but the Shaw Butte Site. I am located near I-17 and Greenway and the signal off of Shaw Butte is very strong (8.5/10) and of maximum quality (100%). However, activity is shown as basically non-existent."
(end quote)

I will attempt to make the many attachments.

OK, I'm going to need some instructions here. I attached 5 files and on the sixth I was rejected. Five attachment limit! Took me 5 minutes to attach the five, and I have (wild guess) 300 - 500 zipped files just for this first (of three) 24 hour runs. I'm going to "eat" the many hours I spent "zipping" these files and await instructions as to what info I can extract and forward to the Az DB.

Please unzip and take a look at the 5 files. I believe they are representative of the 1000 - 1500 files obtained in the three 24 hour runs. Give me instructions as to what data (if any) in these files have value to the Forum, and how to extract it and make it available to the Forum.

Thanks,
Rob

Well, this morning a light bulb went off. I discovered, after wasting at least 12 hours (spread over a week, or so) "zipping", that the file naming convention of the HP-1(E) search function is related to the "Hex" ID (left column) on the RR DB Trunked System Frequency Data pages. Also, the "results" of the HP-1 (E) searches included files that I never saw until this morning. Those files are named "detail", and probably contain the desired data for this discussion. I will inspect these files and determine a method of making them available to the RR Forum.

In the meantime, please disregard my previous bumblings on this subject, as they are about the worst case of having my head you-know-where as I can remember.

Attached is the results of three 24 hour discovery sessions using the HP-1 (E). The parameters of each discovery session are explained in my previous posts in this thread. No "wave" file were included in this attachment. They were the ones that took all my time.

Rob,

Finally, had an opportunity to take a quick peak at this. Seems to me, we can glean something from those detail logs, i.e. TG and RID on the specific TG.

What would be grand is to get good samples of the WAV files with theses TG's to hear the traffic type. I don't mean the "Test 1,2,3" samples, but calls and or actual traffic discussion samples. I don't mean for you to publish all of your recordings. Would be a bit much :)

I've started my own spreadsheet where I have been looking at the TG's and Associated RID's to help ID other associated TG's. When I get a moment I'll take a better look at what you submitted.

Thanks for taking the time,

Thanks for taking the time,

Let me state some optional parameters for your appraisal/approval/suggestions:

1) Can I assume that most interest in the content of the wave files would involve those associated with the RRDB as it exists today (Discover Files APS NEW 2)?

2) Could you list an "ordering" hierarchy for the TGs of interest?

3) I set a 30 second limit on the recording of the wave files There were not many of them, but they were all among the ones that "fail" the zip size limit. With that in mind, should I zip up the wave files that "pass", in the order of the largest to the smallest?

4) Would it be important to "listen" to the "failed" files, and make a "guess" as to the nature of the TG?

The above requests for guidelines are not mutually exclusive. You could, for example, request that I first zip up the "passed" wave files for a specific 10 TGs, and then secondly, to analyse by listening, the "failed" wave files from a different 10 TGs. It would help moral if I knew that my activities were being performed in the order of desirability.

Thanks,
Rob
