I have been pulling my hair out, trying to program my Astro Saber III. I gave motorola cables and RIB, but when I try and read the radio it says "Communication with radio failed" I also have an XTS5000 that I have used this computer to program and have had no problems. I have read so many posts all over the internet that my eyes are going cross, but still don't have any luck! Any thoughts?? And please use little words, I just a simple fireman, and this is all new to me!! Thanks.

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I believe the Astro Saber uses the same CPS as the XTS3000, but not the XTS5000.

The XTS3000 is basically an Astro Saber in a different case.
Like the others have mentioned, make sure you're using the correct CPS. The CPS for the XTS5000 will not work on the Astro Saber. You Need Astro portable CPS for Astro Saber/XTS3000 and the correct cable.

I just purchased the CPs for XTS series from Motorola and once I have tried for about 2 hours to program my XTS3000, I found out you need another CPS. Anyone willing to trade for what I need? Motorola will not refund my $$$$.Is that legal?

Astro Saber I-R zone change
Hello to the group,
I have a Astro Saber I-R VHF. This radio is supposed to do 32 channels. I am, using the R 05.03.00 CPS and have programmed 32 conventional personalities with two zones of 16 channels. I have tried programming different switches to change between the two zones with not luck doing so. Can anyone offer a solution?

Use the 2 position switch under the channel knob. Program both positions for ZONE. GARY N4KVE

I had tried any and all switch options including the 2 position switch under the channel knob. It did not work until I Programmed both positions in conventional and trunking. It now works in my UHF version. It does not work in my VHF version because the trunking side is grayed out, meaning that the VHF is Conventional Operation only. How do I get the zone switch to work?
