• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am sure this is the 3 thousandth time this question has been asked, but here I go anyway.

I did search the forum to find my answer and did not readily see it.

I have the following radio:

Model #H04KDH9PW7AN
SR#465AVU1948
CodePlug: 000C
FirmWare: 03.36.00.00
DSP Software: 105.01.06
System Package: H35
FlashCode: 480001-000000-3
EX Encryption

Flash code 480001-000000-3 .........
H14/G114 Digital ID Display
H868/W298 Conventional Multikey and Analog Conventional MDC OTAR
H35/G48

My question is, can this radio be flashed or have the firmware updated to receive p25 transmissions? The radio accepts the programing for P25. I cannot hear anything, including with the correct NAC, or the F7E code.

I am very very new to programing and know nothing about the above information. I am guessing this is an older Astro Saber 3. It does the narrow band I need and the programing allows and accepts the Astro info in the CPS. I am a daily radio user, Law Enforcement Agent, while I do not need to transmit on any of the P25 freqs. yet, I do need to hear what is going on over there. I am sure eventually I will need to transmit as well, but I can cross that bridge when i get there. In the meantime I just need the above unit to last about 4 years. Considering my MT1000 has been by my side daily for the last 20 years, I cannot imagine buying anything else but MOTO.

Help me Obi Won, your my only hope.

What's a "law enforcement agent"?

Anyway, while I'm sure you can find someone that may be able to uplift your analog-only radio I'd personally spend the money and get a newer radio that is still supported. You have a very old radio that would need new host/DSP to even support P25, then a flashcode uplift with P25 supported.

Get a new radio.

Your radio is an old Vselp radio. If you know someone who can update the firmware in your radio to the newest 512K version, & put in a decent flashcode, you'd be set. However if you can't, I suggest you look on Ebay to find a 1 Meg radio with the newest firmware & a loaded flashcode. These generally go for $200. Or look on Batlabs. Lots of people selling these to get the newer 2500's, 5000's, & APX's. I have a few of these radios on UHF, & 800, & they work great, but unless you know someone who can do the upgrade, buy a newer AS3 that has FW 7.71.00/N8.03.03 & a nice loaded FC. GARY N4KVE

Gary, can you define what a decent flashcode would be? I assume I need to go to a Motorola shop for that? The problem for me with newer equipment is cost. I have had good luck with radio equipment and ebay iin the past. This radio is an ebay purchase.

Here is a follow up question, if I did buy another Astro Saber with larger memory and the newer flashcodes and firmware, can I clone the programing from the current radio without messing up the firmware and flashcode of the newer radio??

Thanks for your input.
