• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello I am working with a Astro Tac 9600 Comparator and I cannot seem to find the correct version of software to access the system.
I am not asking for software!
My main question,
Is the Astro Tac Comparator controlled through RSS software same as a motrola quantar or does it have its own software that was made for this system
the onboard chip shows 2002 6.00 if this helps
When attempting to acces the Comparator it states
"Codeplug Loaded in connected device is not compatible with this RSS version
Major Version Number Does Not Match.
If any one has any knowledge of this or what version it needs as well that would be very helpful
thanks

Are you perhaps using an older version of RSS? WinRSS R14.12.00 (Last wideband version) or WinRSS 14.13.00 (Narrowband version) should
be able to read/write to any Astro-TAC 3000 or Astro-TAC 9600 comparator.

I think you need an older version of RSS that matches the codeplug in the device.

If you don't need the contents of the device, you might be able to make up a new codeplug and program it in with later versions of RSS.

How do i go about making a new codeplug for the device? I thought code plugs have to be read first.
I do not need the information from the current code plug.

CSS does see the device but requires a ethernet connection. there is an ethernet port on the back, I have no clue what the IP address would be.

This may not be of any help, but a known default IP address was 55.55.55.56. Note: If you're intended application for the comparator
is for use in a Ham radio voting project, then I think you'll need a different controller and firmware anyway. Check out W9CR's site in
reference to converting an Astro-TAC 9600 to an Astro-TAC 3000.

Yup! You'll need to convert it to an Astro-TAC 3000.
What is the Reason for converting it to a TAC 3000?
I was told from Motorola engineers that installed these and worked on these systems that the 9600 was for P25 only and simulcast.
Again I am doing P25 only, not analog.

As I understand it, the Astro-Tac 9600 was designed for P25 Simulcast Trunking and does not support conventional operation.

Best advice would be to contact with your Motorola engineer friend to discuss your application.
