so i used to play around with the analog stuff, programming wasnt such a nightmare. so i grabbed a sds100, checked out radio reference and wrote down some freqs. i feel stupid def not doing what i want it to.

checked through the "easier to read manual" not too much help.
i know trunked need to be entered in a correct order, think ive done that, but im feeling like its my settings that are killing me, alot of them im clueless too. cant even get priority channels going. so in a test, i took the utah county public safety channel, from broadcastify, its all listed as talk groups, thoughtiprogrammed it correct but it doesnt pick upa single Tx. wont even scan
looked arounnd see a bunch of people or sites offering programming, so i gave it a go, and just my like what i recieved was basicly a new favorites list with all my local county freqs. looked as if i went to radio reference and copied and pasted my county. but no fancy programming or settings changes. is it the same overpriced get nothing done with the other programmers? i just want to be able to turn onmy scanner and listen to the whole thing not just bits and pieces of things want it programed like it should be. from what im told there is not any encryption or the like in utah county so dont see why i should behaving any issies,

any guidence or input?

Welcome to the RR forums. Are you programming your favorites list(s) by hand or using software (Sentinel, Proscan, etc)? Must easier to program the scanner (particularly large trunked radio systems) via software. Sentinel makes this easy and it's free. Once you get your feet wet with Sentinel you can move up to Proscan for greater favorites list customizations. If you still have trouble with your programming even after using Sentinel then feel free to zip up and post your Sentinel export as an attachment to this thread so someone can take a look at your programming and hopefully help you get on the right path.

Did you turn on all the Service Types you want to listen to in the scanner?

Are the control channels programmed in, along with the TGIDs?

Did you turn on the Favorites List?

are you listening to the closest one ?
and only some trunking systems have to be put in, in order. (LTR)
and then you would see little numbers in the frequency box.

Congratulations on buying an SDS100! It's a fantastic scanner, but some things need to be understood:

1: it's not a frequency-based or channel memory-based scanner, as what you're used to....

It's a DATABASE-BASED scanner, which means you can work with a database entry or entries.

2: Install and get used to Sentinel! You will need it for database and firmware updates. Instructions are above.

3: Instead of memory banks and entering frequencies, you can create Favourites Lists for what you want to hear, which you can copy/paste from the main database in Sentinel, or create entries on your own.

4: Chances are, what you want to hear is already in the database! Copy/paste is good.

5: No matter how much you throw at it, if what you want to hear is encrypted, no scanner will receive. Note, digital is not the same as encrypted!

6: If what you want to hear is using either DMR or NXDN as its digital mode, consider buying the appropriate upgrade from Uniden. P25 is already there by default.

7: Once you get used to it, HAVE FUN! It is a different kind of scanner, and it really has (seemingly) too much in terms of bells and whistles, but once you read the "easier to read" manuals for both the SDS scanners and Sentinel, you will find it quite worthwhile.

8: RadioRefence has plenty of resources on both the SDS100 and Sentinel, as well as numerous how-to videos linked from YouTube. Search the forums, too, both here in the Uniden forums and for your state.

9: Lastly, ASK, if all else fails! We're here to help!

SIMPLE START (much, much more to learn after this)

1) Connect to Sentinel, go to <update> and update both firmware and master data base, Then write to radio.
2) In radio menu go to "set scan..." then "select lists to monitor" and turn on the "full database"
3) Either on Sentinel or on the radio key menu turn on/off the service types you want to hear.
4) Use "zip services" button and enter YOUR zip code.
5) SCAN

Then read these forums to learn all the things (and there are many, many, many) that the SDS 100/200 can do.

A little thing. . .

Priority scanning does NOT work the same way as priority scanning for analog. No interruption of on going conversations to check for activity on a higher priority channel/talkgroup. (It really shouldn't be even called "Priority" to avoid expectations).

Why not just post your Sentinel export?
If you still have trouble with your programming even after using Sentinel then feel free to zip up and post your Sentinel export as an attachment to this thread so someone can take a look at your programming and hopefully help you get on the right path.
