To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello guys,

From the moment I received Baofeng I tried to make it communicate with my Motorola talkabout. I already installed Open Gd. However, even putting it on the correct frequency, with or without CTCSS, baofeng can only transmit to the talkabout, and the audio arrives perfectly on the motorola, however when the audio goes to the baofeng it shows that it is receiving some signal, however even with the Squelch being both 0% and 100% the only audio that is received is static. One thing I noticed is that when I use Motorola's call mode, if I pay close attention to the noise of the baofeng, I can hear the ringtone very low. but only this. any other audio is impossible to hear.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I already tried all possible combinations of configurations and was unable to receive any signal.

If you're using them next to each other, you're likely desensing the receiver on the Baofeng. Put the Baofeng in another room and see what happens.

Thanks for the answer.

I moved more than 30 meters away from the baofeng and the exact same thing happens. just static .....

Another thing that I find curious is that when I transmit to baofeng the sound that comes out of it at the reception (static) is very low, even though it is with the audio output at maximum, the sound of when I browse through the options menu, it’s pretty loud, but the reception sound is barely audible.

Baofeng radios are not known for their flawless quality control. You may have just gotten a bad one. Are you able to test with another radio?

Thanks for answering,

So, this is my fear. I had never bought anything from this brand, this was the first one I got from baofeng.
My others are from Motorola, and among them the communication is perfect. But what came to mind was Squelch. however, changing it does not fix the problem. I even tried to change via software, but it was the same.

With a few exceptions, none of the CCRs are great radios. Many are based on the same circuit in different cases or different firmware features. The cost is higher, but Yaesu, Icom, Alinco, and Kenwood are good names to stick with. The commercial radios are good, but especially in Motorola units the CPS can cost more than a good ham HT.

Thanks,
I agree with you, I looked for Baofeng for the price of DMR, and as I saw some people comment that for a DMR it was acceptable ...... I thought it was a good choice. But apparently, even for the analog mode it is not working.
The ones you mentioned I hadn’t researched. I will find out more about them. Thanks for the information

If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive dual-band, analog and DMR handheld, the Anytone 878 is a good choice. Check the reviews. If the Baofeng is a recent purchase, perhaps you can return it.

The Anytone is the same radio as the BTech 6x2 with different firmware features. It is several times the Baofeng cost, but also much better in performance and quality.

One thing about the better ham radios is that Icom and Yaesu have their own digital modes and they are not compatible with each other or DMR. Alinco is the only brand making DMR and theirs appear to be similar to the BTech and Anytone. You might also look at CSI. They have a single band UHF radio with a superhet receiver, which is not found in most of the lower cost DMR units. I have three radios with the superhet receivers, and there is a difference.

Thanks,

Hey, nice to know that. I am really entering the DMR world now. I am very grateful to you and others for this information.
Now, I liked the CSI website. I didn't know this site. And I had no contact with radios with the superhet receivers.
I searched the CSI for the receiver but I couldn't find it, do you know which manufacturer it is from?

CSI has their own line of radio. They seem to be a little better than the CCR. I have 3 (CS800D, CS580, and CS751) and they all are good quality and work well. CS120D Single Band DMR Radio is the link to the superhet model. I like the CS580 for i\the size and a search feature that is easy to use and finds the CC and talk group. If I didn't have a couple of good superhet radios, I would buy that one.

You can't go wrong with a CSI CS750. Great radio at a great price.
