Sorry but IMHO Uniden are at fault. I've BIOS/Firmware updated many bits of kit from PCs to Radio to other more specialised kit and as far as I can recall invalid updates are flaged. Sometimes via a website download selection where you enter/select your specific hardware model and sub version. Othertimes the install/update process stops/warns due to incompatibilty.
I mentioned "school boy errors" and I stand by this when we are talking about an International company who should really be "on the top of their game".
If I had a £3000 UK pound, $4000 dollar bit of pro kit that was bricked by an update that should have not been allowed or rejected then I would be really pissed and potentially going to court for compensation. There is an accepted concept of "due care" and "due care" would be to ensure that people can not brick their kit with a wrong download. AND were this to happen their should be a "return/rectification" path.
