I was given a bc370crs as a gift. Out of the box I used the back of set antenna that came with it, reception was ok given the fact that the scanner is located on the 1st floor of my house. I want to improve reception however I'm unable to mount an antenna outside my structure. I tried several different back of set antennas as well as a wall mounted homebrew j pole. I have found the back of set antenna that came with the scanner to still be the best performing,
The problem that having is when I'm listening to weak or med strength signals on vhf high band the positioning of the power cord greatly affects ability to receive certain stations, constant repositioning of the cord is needed. I've owned older scanners and Plectron recievers where the positioning of the power cord doesn't affect reception. Is this a ground plane problem that could be corrected somehow? I thought I read somewhere that attaching a wire or ground to the receiver side of the antenna connector might help.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
