Bump. Should I just get another cable, or try out some other troubleshooting methods?

Here are the instructions for installing the driver.

If you are having problems installing the drivers, see the following general instructions (some steps might differ slightly, depending on your specific operating system).

  1. Download and unzip the above driver.
  2. Plug in the scanner using a USB cable.
  3. Right click on the Windows Launch icon (bottom left corner) and select "Device Manager."
  4. The device shows up with a yellow triangle.
  5. Right click on device and select "Update Driver Software."
  6. Select "Browse My Computer for Driver Software."
  7. Navigate to the folder where you have unzipped the above driver.
The driver installed and is assigned as: Uniden Serial Port (COMx)
(x) will be replaced with the actual port number.

Thanks, doing some chores. I give it a shot later. We have company coming over in about an hour.

Freescan 2.18-beta6, Gearmo FTDI2-LED USB RS-232 serial adapter and BC996T, need to keep clicking the Freescan serial port auto (configure) button, for the software to eventually detect, configure and upload/download. Sometimes several successful tries before being able to upload/download. The typical repetitive message, error in communications, just click continue then auto buttons repeatedly.

Likely the software code is simply misaligned with the firmware codes being returned from the scanner, or vice versa. Or a simple oddity with the Freescan code, or maybe something with the FTDI driver. Have yet to have time for troubleshooting with any other serial hardware for verifying.
