So I graduated college in 1975 and got my first professional job at $17,000 a year. I purchased an Electra Bearcat 101, the first true programmable scanner, it cost $399.99 at Lafayette Electronics. Radio Shacks offering of a similar radio made by GRE was also $399.99 and I would have paid more for either radio, it was exciting Space Age Technology.

I consider the government's inflation numbers to be total BS so using a conversion chart doesn't mean much but I'm going to guess compared to today's value of money, in 1975 $399.99 for scanner was probably like paying over $1,200 today, again I would have paid more.

Kind of makes the 436 a bargain.
Excellent point! I was just looking at some old pricing and I too purchased scanners going back many years and was paying $200-300-400 for top line ones in the 80s 90s so not much to complain about scanner pricing today….now comparing food, real estate etc is another story!

I have that information but the firmware itself is no longer on Uniden’s site.
i was able to locate and apply 1.28.14 on a third party site though.
Do you realize that 1.28.14 is no longer the latest firmware? That version was released in 2021. Is there a reason you need that version?

The latest version is 1.28.15 which was released in June 2024. This version can be installed via sentinel.
