I agree AZ :)
Good thing that UPMan reads all of these threads (whether or not folks want to believe that he does) and that it will give him food for thought.
My main point was that it was not a "major downside" or issue.

True, but like the clock setting, this could easily be addressed by a user-selectable "switch" in firmware: Mute Encryption? Y/N. It's probably pretty easy to add something like that to a future firmware release if enough people say they want the option. Personally, I think that if you want to know what units are sitting on what channel, that's what Unitrunker is for. I'd rather tie up a $20 dongle and an otherwise idle computer with that sort of thing than my $500 scanner.

I would not call it a "major downside".
Actually the ability to mute & skip encrypted radio traffic was a benefit that Uniden had over previous GRE models...at least a lot of folks (myself included) believe that not having the scanner get "stuck" on encrypted talkgroups like the GRE models were prone to do was a benefit.
Give people what they want and they still complain.

I can certainly see and understand where many users don't want to hear and deal with encrypted audio, but there are a lot of people who mainly monitor federal communications and do radio ID logging. I'm not saying they should do away with the encryption audio/skip but make it an option for us advanced users who want to see what is active out there.

I just finished setting up my 536HP and have a couple of questions and an answer.

1. The issues that have been mentioned regarding power failure during a microSD card write can easily be remedied with a second microSD card with a copy of the database, or a copy on your computer.

2. I have not been able to receive my local analog, fire & EMS, on the scanner. Any ideas?

2. They are assigned as Multi-Service Dispatch. Be sure you have that service type turned on.

Received mine today and programmed it and I checked and double check I do not have a priority set, however the scanner breaks up as if checking a priority channel. Monitoring the MPSCS in Michigan a P25 Phase 1 system. When receiving a TG it sounds fine for a few seconds then audio drops out and the signal meter drops to nothing a second later it comes back. My other radios are not doing this. Conventional channels seem to do it too.

I must be missing something? Any ideas?

Thanks

Les

May be a dumb question, is Close Call enabled?

Not a dumb question when you're asking a Uniden dummy. I've had GRE's so long but you were 100% correct I had CC activated.

Thanks!

Les it sounds great now!

No one with any credibility will tell you yes or no without having experience monitoring radio systems in your local area. What works in my area might not work in yours. What works in your area might not work in mine.
As been said before here at RR.com: find someone local to you that has monitoring experience in YOUR area. Find out which scanners have worked for them then base your
purchase off what works best monitoring wise in the areas in which you wish to monitor.
Happy Monitoring :)

Go to the main forums index, then the Regional section, and then Kansas will have its own forums section - you will probably have better luck posing your question there (though someone might see it here, who knows...).

That would be better for a more general question/request for help. Best of luck!

I have not altered the main database settings. The dispatch frequency is the same as that on my previous scanner a Uniden 396.
