The website "abetterwaytobuy" has the 436 in stock. I spoke with them today and they shipped mine out today; I purchased it late last night.

They seem to be very good people.

I ordered mine at about 5AM and I had an email with tracking number a few hours later.

Bought my 536 from them via Amazon, went smoothly.

I wonder if UPman can she some light on this??:)

I thought I answered this in this thread; I know I did in others. I know I'm not UPMan, but I'm pretty sure my answer is correct.

It's safe to assume that the 436 has the same software inside it as the 536. Wise871 reported that the 536 doesn't have the "CC Out" menu item. This menu item is what programs like Unitrunker and PRO96COM need in order to receive trunking control channel data... usually. (More on the other option in a second.)

There is a feature called "Analyze Mode" which has been disabled in the 536, and, presumably, the 436. UPMan has indicated that it's not ready for public use yet. One would assume that means that it needs some tweaking and then it'll be ready.

There is a feature in the HP1 called Analyze Mode, and most of the features of the 436/536 that have correspondingly-named features in the HP1 have proven to be close enough that those of us with HP1s can guess as to the nature of the feature in the 436/536. Having said that, this is what the HP1's analyze mode does: You can run a mode that looks like the Unitrunker or PRO96COM screen, showing all the channels (LCNs) and their activity, including talkgroup and radio IDs, but it isn't logged; or, you can run a mode called Activity Log, which doesn't show you a static screen like Unitrunker or PRO96COM, but logs all the activity on the system just the same. Now, the author of PRO96COM put a feature in the program a few versions back that allows you to take those recorded logs out of your HP1 - after you have finished an analysis session - and let PRO96COM read them, as if PRO96COM was doing the actual control channel monitoring. That's as close as you can come to having your HP1 connected to Unitrunker or PRO96COM. Almost. And I suspect that the 436 and 536 will be the same way.

Back to the "almost" bit I mentioned. The HP1 has a "Raw Data Output" feature in its analysis suite. This is almost like a discriminator tap, and almost like a CC Output mode, but not completely like either of them. The author of Unitrunker can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe what you have with "Raw Data Output" is discriminator audio represented by voltage over a USB "serial port" connection. At one time, he had Unitrunker able to decode from an HP1 using this raw data mode. It remains to be seen if the 436/536 will have this raw data mode in its analysis suite - if it does, theoretically, it should work the same way (and programmers of software should be able to take advantage of it).

Anyone else noticed the conventional speed increase with this unit? It's considerably faster than my 996. I can't wait to use it to log activity on lowband. This thing rockets right along. So far I'm super impressed with it.

No, haven't tried conventional scanning but I do notice it's much slower scanning trunked systems compared to my PSR-800. As well, I noticed that while I have the same TGID set to HOLD on both the 436 and PSR-800, the 436 misses traffic occasionally where the PSR-800 decodes just fine.

Hmm, I haven't had much time with it but I can't say I've noticed any trunking lag or it being slow. I seem to be hearing the State's (non simulcast) P25 system normally.

I got a pregnant hamster with another order, SO... anyone who doesn't happen to get one, let me know, I have quite a few with no wheels to run on.

@cellphone you probably know there are small Blue tooth transmitters available that charge with USB, they plug into the earphone jack and stream the audio to whatever device you pair them to..... A zip lantronics headset e.g. in my case usually. I wish the 436 had BT built in but at least there is a way....

Uniden Bearcat BCD436HP Scanner

Universal apparently hasn't received theirs yet (!?). the site says 01/31 or 02/03.
I wonder how these other companies got theirs first?

Maybe they just haven't updated their site?

Could very well be, too, that the first ones they received were all taken up with pre-orders so they are waiting for their next 'wave' to come in before they can show stock.

Hoping those who get the 436 will soon post some additional videos.... showing not only reception but a good close look at this display.

I am really not dumb however?

I believe by default "Multi-Service Dispatch" is disabled, so you would probably need to enable it.

Can someone PLEASE give me a hint on how to change this to Multi-Service Dispatch? It appears to have the same settings as my previous Uniden.

Thanks

In Sentinel go to Edit>Edit Profiles>Service Types> then check Multi-Dispatch then upload it to the scanner:)

Or from the scanner hit Menu, Select Service Type, scroll down and enable it.

Powering the radio

Perhaps I'm wrong in my thinking but it appears the only way to power the radio is via batteries. USB only is charging and serial/ mass storage?

Guess I can't connect the audio to my computer and stream it all day and night to my client, the battery will just die and I'm left with nothing.

My PSR-800 will charge while operating via USB and the 396 has a DC jack I can power the radio with, this thing can't do either.

Also, not a big deal since I seem to have 30 USB wall warts, but why wasn't one included with the radio?

It was said when announced that the batteries do not charge while the scanner is on. The scanner must be off for the batteries to charge.

As we know with two-way radios, you aren't to leave them turned on while in the charger. I figure this is the same principle.
