BCD536HP Post-Release Thread

Has anyone else noticed that when you first turn on the 536 the very first screen says "Uniden Barecat"? It should be Bearcat not a Barecat, which is a nude cat. You can changed it in Sentinel.

Judging from the typos in the marketing material, manuals, and websites. It seems to be a common occurrence.

So far unimpressed Butel not ready until late Q1. They just had to get this unit out before other software is ready. I can see the Home Patrol is a POS just put in your zip code and Bam it works. I don't like the micro chip in my 536 I put my zip code in and I getting crap that I don't care to listen to. Also I have a better read out of what I have programmed in my 396XT the 536HP. I hope Butel gets their software up to date and ready to download because my new scanner will be going back into the box until further notice.

I found a few mistakes myself but I think Uniden make it clear that it was a draft and it was incomplete too.

Most companies I am familiar with would not share info this early in its development but UPMan chose to let us have as much as was available and I for one found to be VERY useful. Besides it allows us to participate in finding mistakes which I have found in published supposedly finished manuals for much more expensive hardware from other companies. In two cases the directions were actually the reverse of what you needed to do to accomplish the task and in MANY other cases the person(s) who translated from Japanese to English wrote the most ambiguous statements I have ever read. I could not tell what they were saying I needed to do!

I still fail to see why you can't use the Sentinel software, and I fail to see why it's Unidens fault that 3rd party companies haven't release 436/536 compatible software.

I judge by what I see in a post, am I supposed to magically know you have physical limitations?

You should have waited for reviews before deciding to purchase the scanner. The initial images and reviews plus the fact that the Uniden software was available right after the announcement would have told you if the scanner would have met your needs. Also it was know that Butel would not be ready for release. Unless you a programer, these things take time. Only one to blame for spending $600 is you.

You should think before YOU speak, being ex Navy myself I find it amusing when people flaunt their military service to gain sympathy. And I am far from liberal, but thanks for your service anyway, and try to improve that attitude, you'll be a happier person.

polo807- -Did you make sure you have the latest firmware update for the 536?
And it appears that you are getting frustrated with the Full Database.
I would suggest trying to narrow down what you want to listen to in a
Favorites List. That way you don't have to listen to everything else.
Let us know if you need help creating a Favorites List.

No I'm not a psychologist. I am a a 24 year military vet with a disability rating that I accumulated from my many years in the sandbox and every other conflict from 84 to 08. I don't blame Uniden or software developers. and I surly don't pull the pity card when I get frustrated. Also when does a company have to wait for third party developers to release something? Also you came out full throttle in your post. Didn't seem like you were trying to relay anything but your dissatisfaction.

I just noticed that unlike the Uniden radios of the past that has "TrunckTracker III, IV, etc." the 536 has a blank were TrunkTracker V would have been (at the very top of the front of the radio above the display between Uniden and the BearCat Paw). The 436 also does not have it on it.

Hello folks, I'm en route in a few hours to pick up a 536, but have one lingering question/concern....
I currently have a 996XT and have it set up the way I prefer. With the 536, can I keep the same groups, etc that I currently have on the 996XT, or am I bound by the home patrol database exclusively? I'm hoping for the price tag, it allows some customization, as I'm not a big fan of how home patrol groups frequencies. Being in a less populated area, we still have many conventional freqs here, many of which aren't on radioreference or the home patrol database.

One of the things you could do is submit these unlisted frequencies to the admins to have them added to the database.

I took all of my programming out of my BCD996XT which is setup exactly the way I wanted it and opened up FreeScan and exported all of my systems to excel and I programmed my BCD536HP manually using the sentinel software and pasted my talkgroups and talkgroup ID's into the Uniden Software and it works perfectly the way I want it to work. I just turn the nationwide database off. Its a little bit more work but the radio is awesome. But having a third party software later this year is going to be the ticket for sure.
