I did find that on the Uniden site, still do not see how to tell if it is upgraded, some good info o how to upgrade though.
Since that upgrade looks like it came out in 2014 I wonder if the later radios had it from the factory :)
You go thru steps to apply upgrade key and it will tell you if it has already been applied.

None of the upgradable scanners had the upgrades done at the factory, they are purchased as add-on upgrades if the owner wants them added.

Cost of upgrades directly from Uniden:

DMR = $60
NXDN = $50
ProVoice = $50 (very little of this is used anymore)

To check your scanner for upgrades....
  1. On the scanner, press MENU.
  2. Select Settings --> then press E.
  3. Select Upgrades, --> then press E.
  4. Scroll to Upgrade DMR/MotoTRBO (or others) , then press E.
  5. The next screen will tell you if it that upgrade has been activated on your scanner. If it hasn't been activated, it will ask you to input the digital key to activate it.

The firmware code is already there, you don't download it as as add-on. The key you buy from Uniden, which you then enter, merely unlocks the feature, and the authorisation to use it.

DMR and NXDN are absolutely worth having.

You are correct, no downloads are required, and only a digital key purchase is necessary.... as long as the scanner does have the current firmware containing the upgrade code that the user can activate by purchasing the keys. The exception would be the early BCDx36HP scanners that were shipped with early versions of firmware that didn't have the upgrade code implemented yet, and had never been updated by the user.
