I ended up having to use the ATmega328P (Old Bootloader). But it says that the "uploading is complete".
Let me check my box o’ parts and notes from that project… as I recall the Old Bootloader selection didn’t work for me. I’m on the road until Saturday, but will check when I get home.

Going over my notes, and reviewing the thread... did your nano board have a reset button on it? On my nano it was just behind the usb port, on the board. One person on the thread mentions that the converter didn't work until he pressed the button, then it began working. It's worth a shot!

Jon-
My experience is the same... I was able to finally program the nano by reverting to Arduino v. 1.8.16 instead of using the latest version, but could not replicate that experience today, when I pulled the project box from my basement. These are twitchy little things!
