I reprogrammed it using freescan and now it shows all the channels but receives nothing. I programmed my bcd996t just before and copied channels. Did I mess up the radio?

If you are asking if you did something that can not be corrected without sending it into a repair station, the answer is no… provided the only thing you did was push the user accessible buttons or controls. I’ve never heard of anyone permanently damaging the scanner simply by pushing buttons. Yes, you can screw up your programming but that is correctable by the user.

The 996 works perfectly. The 15 scans and shows frequencies in the program but it receives absolutely nothing

I tried reprogramming it from scratch on freescan but still nothing?

You need to provide more detail. What exactly was programmed into the 15X that isn't being received? You mentioned copying the programming over from the 996T, but you are aware that the 15X is an analog-only scanner and will not track or decode any P25, correct? Did you park the 15X on your local NOAA weather radio channel to make sure it receives that signal?

I have no digital or p25 frequencies in either scanner and yes I programmed the local noaa weather station in. Nothing at all

I basically copied all info from 996 and saved it as a new file and downloaded it to the bc15. I checked erase all systems and settings and downloaded to the bc 15. All seemed fine as it was scanning and when I stopped it from scanning the correct channels were there but it has squelch but does not receive one channel including the weather ?

Try a pair of headphones and see if you hear anything. It could be a dirty headphone or external speaker jack.

A dead giveaway on the dirty headphone or external speaker jack (described by Tvengr) would be the scanner scans normally, stops on a busy channel, but no audio is heard. Try exercising the jack inputs by plugging into and out a few times to see if you can hear some crackling noise… it also acts as a poor man’s cleaning process on these inputs.

If all else fails, do a master reset to the scanner. Then manually program in the local weather channel. If it receives and you can hear it, you're OK. It probably is something with the programming. If it doesn't receive then something is wrong with either your antenna or the receiver.

Have plenty of audio. And I plugged my other scanner into antenna and it works fine so I guess I will try to wipe the program

How do you do a master reset ?

Just found it and did factory reset. Now let’s start again. Thanks for all your help!!

It may be worth a try reloading the firmware. If that doesn't work, remove the covers and check cable connectors inside the scanner. I'm not sure about the BCT15X, but some of the scanners have a plug that connects the cable from the antenna connector to the circuit board. Also, check the circuit board for corrosion. If that is the case, alcohol can be used to clean it. How old is the scanner? After about 10 or 15 years, bad solder connections begin to show their ugly face.

"Nothing" as in no audio, or no audio AND no s-meter indication?
