Hi All,

I just received my new 996XT and are new to Uniden scanners and are trying to get used to the menus and scanning banks ect.

I have allways been a radio shack scanner person and have two of them now the Pro-106 and Pro-96 os I'm used to there menu systems.

Now that I have the Bearcat scanner I have to get used to the menus on the BCD-996XT.

First how do you select and deselect scanning banks, I have lost on this one as the online documents are poor.

I don't like the online web based help at all. They should have make an Adobe pdf file instead of the online help system that they did.

Next is the only good programing software out there is Butel ? I tried Freescan but it does not seem to support RR downloads.

Thanks for any other navagation help you can give me with the Uniden BCD996XT
and setting up the scanner and menus scanning ect.

Thanks Scott

The scanner does not have banks. Check out:
Scanner Programming

For using System Quick Keys (which is how you quickly turn systems on/off) see:
UsingQuickKeysStartupKeysAndSearchKeys < UnidenMan4 < TWiki and QuickKeys < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

For programming systems in general, see the sections linked at:
UnidenScannersUsersGuides < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

If you don't know how trunking works, see:
RadioSystemsOverview < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

And if you aren't sure what kind of trunked system you are wanting to program, see:
DecipheringTrunkedSystems < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

From what I've read, FreeScan should be able to import from RadioReference. You might want to post details of the problem you are having doing so.

I just bought a 996XT as well, and I can say for sure that FreeSCAN supports imports from RR, that's what I am using. Go to File > Import and you can select RR. The only thing I noticed is that I can't automatically download businesses from various counties, only what is directly on the county page. No big deal though, it's free!

That's the case with all three of the available programs for that scanner except with respect to data that is listed in the database as applicable to the entire state. You select a state and a county and then choose what you want to download.

Thanks for the info, I was used to using the Win series of software for my previous RS/GRE scanners.
