Depending on where I am in the county, and the time of day, I may or may not hear Bell P25. I have attempted to run this using Unitrunker to no avail. I might attempt to use my PSR 500 on Unitrunker, but I would prefer using my 436HP. The analyze screen shows this:

I want to ask for a round of applause for the person who helped with the Bell County P25 DB. Wow, this is incredible. I never ever detected DPS yet. Nice.

References to Call Center

The reason many are confused because of references to call center is because most Bell County Agencies do not run their own dispatch. I realize that may be contrary to some reports in this thread, but it simply is the way it is.
Any citizen is welcome to stop by Bel County Call center and under many conditions, even get a tour and explanation.
Killeen Police Department does NOT operate their own dispatch, neither does Harker Heights PD, KISD PD, Bell County Constables (all districts) etc. etc. etc!
It does not matter if your in Killeen, Heights, or even Salado, when you dial 911 it rings in Belton at the Bell County Call center and is dispatched from same location.
Inside the Call Center are many terminals. Each terminal is capable of monitoring and transmitting on many different TG's. Here is a recent example, 2 detectives are talking on Killeen Tac 3 (50293 - P25) or 293 (dec) 02-045 (afs) and they will mention something and Call Center will respond "Center Direct" Meaning they are monitoring even though it is the same person who is Dispatcting Killeen on (50289 - P25) or 289 (dec) 02-041 (afs.) Subject then takes off and a pursuit ensues, all involved switch to Pursuit 1 (50417-P25) or 417 (dec) 03-041 (afs) which is an all county, all agency in the county talkgroup run by,,,wait for it,,,,Bell County Call Center. As updates are passed, "Center Direct" is heard by, you guessed it; same young lady mentioned over and over above. By the way, if you get a chance; please go and meet these folks; they are consumate proffessionals that we rely on everyday with our safety.

Right now, with the exception of 2 Temple PD talkgroups. ALL P25 traffic is being retransmitted on the old EDACS system through a bridge, likewise all old EDACS traffic is being retransmitted to P25 through the same bridge. This will continue for quite some time as many agencies do not have the P25 radios yet. So there is no rush to run out and buy a Phase II capable scanner.

I have now mapped every frequency in the old EDACS database to the new P25 databse (inside information, not using a scanner;) and with the exception of 5 TG's, the Bell County Conversion plan (which is public by the way, all you have to do is ask for it) is completed by placing a 50 in front of the old (dec) number and badabingbadaboom, you have the complete county P25 plan.

For those who are interrested in the new scanners and how they do on P25 (Bell County); I can now speak for the Uniden BCD 996P2, Uniden BCD 436HP and BCD536HP and finally the Unication G5 Pager. All fall short on Phase II P25 with the exception of the G5 (but it is not a scanner, rather pager that will scan.)

It is frustrating, and I have spent hours messing with P25 Thresholds as well as preamps, 800mhz yagies etc. It seems decoding algorythims are just not there yet in consumer scanners. I can have full strength bars, consistently locked on to control channel, and still miss many transmissions. My series of RTL-SDR's in contrast are almost perfect, just not portable. If anyone is being more successful with the above Uniden boxes, please chime in!

Hope someone finds the above useful and I am more than happy to answer specific questions if I can.

I am going to savor this response and review the contents later, but I did not know you could get a tour of the communication center. I knew the former person over Bell County, my former Warden with a first name of Nancy. So, maybe I can get a tour. That would be so damn cool!

Belton PD Encrypted

I hear some, but very limited, Belton PD traffic and almost no ordinary dispatch. Are they using a lot of encrypted channels?

50508 is Belton PD. 200 series units working a car vs deer accident at the 289 mm on I35 southbound. Dispatch id's as Belton.

Yes, according to informed sources, there is some encryption, but not that much. I hear surveillance, Organized Crime Units, & KPD Swat almost everyday.

If you will send me a PM and tell me what type of radio you are using, I can assist you in this process.

In order to hear Bell County, you will need a P25 capable of Phase II. There are a few show Phase II, but not that many.

A Phase I scanner will catch most of the action; however, in order to hear Temple PD, a ProVoice upgrade might be in order. I like to monitor both since the ProVoice seems to have better-sounding audio. I have identified various talk groups that were converted from ProVoice to P25.

Send me a PM and tell me what you want. If you own a Uniden 436/536 HP, I can shoot you a file provided you can also include your email address. I can even program your radio by shooting my information into your radio.

I now know who has been installing these radios, inside track.

KPD Tac 3 is Phase II. However, I have yet to confirm IDs. When I hear them identify the channel as such, I will submit.

I have followed the 50 plus conversion system and created P25 talk groups. I see that nobody has submitted all of these to talk groups to RR. I attempted to submit the talk groups using the aforementioned conversion method, but it was rejected.

No idea how to send a PM on this forum. I own an SDS100.
Calc,
You're still classified as a 'newbie', so your posts are moderated and you cannot send or receive PMs. Once you get a few more posts under your belt, and are classified as a 'member', then the PM option will be available to you. See this thread for further clarification.

I live in Bell County and currently use an SDS100 and I’m seeing more than just KPD Tac 3 on Phase II, I haven’t created a list but I could if it would be helpful.

Yes, I have also observed several Phase II talk groups. I believe I submitted one for Temple PD.

At present, I am attempting to juggle work and monitoring. As I stated, I attempted to submit the 50 plus method, but it was rejected. So, now, I will only submit when I actually hear them announce the name of the talk group. I attempted to use the ID method, but that is very tedious. So, if you definitely hear them identify a particular talk group and you are listening, please submit.

The reason that I wasn't hearing Belton PD is that their main talkgroup wasn't included in the radio reference database. I would like see your list or receive your file...I suspect that I'm missing a great deal because of the incomplete database.

In addition to someone providing an updated list of talkgroups not yet present in the database (hopefully, someone will submit them), you might also try running the system in ID Search mode rather than ID Scan.

ID Scan stops only on talkgroups that are programmed, as long as they are not Avoided (locked out), and are not in a Department that is Avoided. The Service Type would need to be enabled as well.

ID Search stops on any active talkgroup, as long as it is not Avoided (you can Avoid (lockout) a talkgroup that is not programmed). If the talkgroup is already programmed, you would see the text tag that is associated with it. If the TGID is NOT programmed, then the 'text tag' would simply be the talkgroup ID (no descriptive text). As the unprogrammed talkgroups are not classified with a Service Type, you would hear any that are active. As you find new talkgroups, please submit them to the database so that they can be added. That way, after the update, the TGIDs will show up on the weekly database refresh.

Thank you for the advice. I'm still learning what is a completely new scanner to me. Things have changed a great deal since my 245xlt days.

I will gladly send you my Bell County Favorites. I will also send a pic of my Profile to you. Send me a PM with an email address. I will then forward my files to you.

FYI. All you have to do, for scanning purposes, is to add 50 to the DEC on the Bell County EDACS system. For the purpose of illustration, let's go to Belton PD Dispatch in the EDACS Bell county system. The DEC is 321. For the talk groups marked as "A" , if you add 50, you get 50321, the correct talk group for the new P25 system. If you find a DEC of two digits, add 500. For the talk groups marked "D", you would add 5. For instance, I submitted the digital PV talk group of 1185 for Temple PD Dispatch. In this case, you would add 5 to the DEC. Hence, the corrected DEC for P25 is 51185.

Calc, I see that you are now classified as a "Member", no longer 'newbie'.

So, PM's should now work for you.
