I'd like to follow up

I have some friends that have recently relocated to Richland Washington . According to Radio reference.com there are two counties in Washington state to monitor. Benton county and Franklin .. Benton county looks like it's got a trunked system in place for their public safety communications. Are the analog frequencies in use,or the trunked system?

Is there any reason to monitor this system?

Is there much activity in the way of military communications in the area? What Oregon border counties are worth monitoring,if any?

Many thanks for your help. .

Ok, Umatilla and Morrow are the border counties in Oregon. They are on the 400 mhz trunked system. Doesn't come in very good over the hill in the Tri-Cities unless you have a high gain antenna. Benton Co is 800mhz trunked with fire simulcast but fire is scheduled to go BACK to VHF hi-band next year. The Benton TRS is comes in from the Yakima area heading east and along the Oregon border as far west as Arlington. This is about where the Umatilla TRS also starts picking up. Franklin County(Pasco) is mostly VHF. Military? The Army Chemical Depot has a 400 mhz P25 system but I don''t have a way to monitor it and its possible it is encrypted as well. US DOE Edacs? I have it programmed but haven't heard anything, Hanford Patrol law and fire is still on good old VHF. I have some of those if you need them.
