BERWYN , PA - On Wednesday, April 7th at 5:51 a.m. the Berwyn Fire Company Ambulance was dispatched to the area of Lancaster Ave. and Woodside Ave. for an automobile crash.

The Easttown Township Police Department arrived on location moments later and found a single vehicle crash and confirmed that a victim became trapped in their vehicle after crashing into a building.

Ambulance 2-1 and Paramedic 2-1 arrived on location to find a single vehicle into a small structure with the driver entrapped in the wreckage. A medical helicopter was requested due to the severity of injuries sustained by the driver. Berwyn Fire Captain Eamon Brazunas established Incident Command and requested Traffic 3 from the Paoli Fire Company to assist with traffic control.

The crews of Engine 2-2 and Rescue 2 utilized the Jaws of Life to remove the roof of the vehicle to safely extricate the driver. The extrication was completed at 6:12 a.m.

Simultaneously, a landing zone was established by Engine 2-1 behind the Easttown Library. Ambulance 2-1 transported the driver to the landing zone, where the victim was airlifted by PENN STAR aeromedical to a Philadelphia trauma center in serious condition.

Final apparatus and personnel cleared the accident scene by 8 a.m. The westbound lanes of Lancaster Ave. were closed between Woodside Ave. and the Berwyn Train Station for the same duration. The cause of the automobile crash is under investigation by the Easttown Township Police Department. Yowch! That's not something you see everyday (not that I would want to!) - and that looks like it was a BMW, too. :sad:

I hope the driver is OK and wasn't doing something stupid while driving!!!!!!!!
