Looking for firsthand experience/recommendations for VHF Aviation & Marine HTs that use alkaline (AA ?) batteries. Back up radios. One radio that will be used in support of fire suppression air to ground. One radio will be used on inland lakes for search & rescue/EMS response. Thanks.

Just about all the good commercial LMR radios will support alkaline battery shells.
And many have Part 80 certification for marine use, just keep in mind that to be totally legal, the person programming marine VHF channels into any radio to transmit needs to have an FCC issued GROL license.

Kenwood radios almost all have Part 80 and have alkaline battery shells.

Not sure about aviation, never had to deal with that.

Thanks for your response. I have used those “clamshells” with Part 90 LMR radios in USAR and wildland firefighting in the past. Trying to not use LMR for this.
I was wanting recommendations on any specific makes and models of FCC Part 80 & Part 87 certified portables that use disposable batteries. Which ones were good, which ones to stay away from from from firsthand experience.
