• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The beginning of this year I received my BKR9000 after almost 6 months. It has been well worth the wait. I do have some basic questions.

- Does the keypad actually light up? If so how do I get this option in RES?
-What is the latest firmware? How can I see what firmware is on my radio? If it needs upgrading is it just a matter of downloading the file from the website, unzipping it and installing it over the radio in RES?
- I Notice on weaker P25 signals (I am using it for receive only right now) my BKR9000 seems to stutter and the audio skips. Stronger signals do not do this. Is this a common thing? The only thing I can liken it to is when you put a scanner on priority scan mode and it skips every 2 seconds. None of my other radios do this, not even my old KNG P800s.

The keypad has some lighting. Nothing like the KNG or the BKR5000. I’m a little disappointed

If you go to the BK website the latest firmware and software is posted there. If you go into your “versions” menu you can see what it is.

You will need to install lightning utility to bump your firmware and out the radio in firmware mode.

My radio does the same only on simulcast trunking though. Almost like it’s in the wrong modulation like it’s in C4FM vs QPSK.

Just installed the latest firmware 5.10.43 and P25 Phase 1 Simulcast seems to sound a LITTLE better with just a few drop outs. The 700mhz Phase 2 Simulcast in the county next door that all but 1 device has trouble with still sounds pretty garbled and I'm still getting a little bit of clicking and popping. One day I want to fire up my KNG P800 and take a comparison video so everyone can see the difference. Of course right now I don't have the KNG P800 and there's a Dwelling in that county.
