Somewhere between the Scylla and Charybdis
I have radios monitoring both systems, both Harris radios, an XG-75P with Phase II and my XL-185 that monitors the EDACS system.
I've heard many transmissions on the P25 system which are digital and the EDACS system repeats it, sounding digital, but clearly not encrypted. Other times there are definitely encrypted transmissions on the P25 system. The XG-75P will indicate the encrypted key symbol but of course not unmute as it isn't keyed to the material.

I'm by no means clear on the rules of retransmissions as performed by the migration gateway. But with time delay being my best information, there are some transmissions that begin digital and are retransmitted on the analog system, and others that begin on the EDACS system and end up retransmitted on the P25 system.

Yeah there is plenty of BCSO encryption on the P25 system, you catch it every so often on EDACs where it doesn't decode from the gateway. Even the BCFR TACs had encryption during the fires last week down south. Not every transmission but you can tell its coming.

All of the below comes from the DSDPlus CC Event Log then parsed out with PowerShell. Important is the Last 24hr Encryption column as you can see that % is getting higher than the overall as more radios are using encryption as time goes on.

And to be clear, all the BCSO units will be encrypted. It's not selective. Then most likely BCFR will be next.

No longer getting a CC lock on either the North or South P25 Simulcast Cell. Anyone notice any channel frequency changes?

There were 2 frequencies added to the north simulcast earlier this week. Updated in Database.

Brevard has lit up their P25 system that will eventually replace their 30 year old analog EDACS system.

Currently only the (edit: south - palm bay) site is active on 852.6125

Funny, they are using the same WACN as Ozaukee County, EDIT: Wisconsin (at least for now) --- this system will be very much in play over the coming weeks.

I have puzzled why you use NAC.WACN while the industry convention is WACN.NAC. In fact, WACN.NAC order is used in the callsign to WACN and NAC calculator they sometimes used.

there is no reason, it's just the way it was chosen to lay out the master thread links in the forum. and, I do not have the desire to go change all the links and threads using the method that was used at the beginning of the forum re-org.

I would not suggest going back and changing things but many of us will post in the standard industry order of WACN then NAC.

I think most people in the Industry would post in WACN then System ID. Within a system, NAC's can vary from site to site.

The way I've read it, by leveraging the "power" of the advanced L3HARRIS TDMA network, with enhanced AES256 encryption, to insure secure mission critical communications, your public safery officials will be further protected from the ongoing and growing threat from domestic adversaries.

Well, at least that's how most of L3H marketing brochures seem to lay things out.

In short, now that they have advanced and secure mission crtical communications, (public safety) officer safety should no longer really be an issue and since their adversaries will no longer have the ability to escape or evade, as they once did by monitoring the network, crime should become almost non-existant.

Let's just see how things play out for now.😉

Well it sounds like we'll loose listening to any Public Service agencies with the P25 Phase 2 system by the end of September. Wow, we're all going to have a bunch of useless radios.
I agree wholeheartedly. I have 6 Uniden trunking scanners at the house I was using for analog and 3 GRE, and one SDS100 for digital/analog. If all I am going to be able to listen to is SCAT buses on anything it's time to post the whole lot up onto Ebay.

Only thing I can listen to (what it seems) in whole is Cocoa PD Dispatch - getting both sides of traffic. NOTE - THIS IS WITHOUT DIGITALLY MONITORING VIA SOFTWARE , just by what I hear. No need to swoop in and correct me.

They're jazzing up P25 Phase 2 and implying encryption is either mandatory or included. Marketing because there is nothing left to market. Moto has been pushing encryption lately too.

I was going to look at a Unication G5 once Brevard went P25 cause it would work well in the Florida areas (mostly Brevard) I frequent, and home in NH (almost all VHF). Might hold off with all the encryption potential. Hopefully, Indian River County Fire doesn't follow.

My post was meant as just a spoof on and not the actual marketing lingo. However, it's not atypical to how technolgy is lobbied and pushed for (along with all kinds of implide "statistics" ) to be rolled out and implemented by many companies these days, in both the government and public safety sector markets. Those have been the most lucrative sectors for many of them in the last several years.

With the biggest selling points being increased efficiency and safety. Both of which rarely come to fruition.
