According to uniden there is no known issue regarding broken battery clips. Apparently they do not want anyone self installing these clips in voiding warranties due to opening the unit.
True. My unit isn't under warranty. They did ask me if my unit was under warranty I told them no since I have it over 13-14 months. Too bad I didn't ordered like 3 of them.

If under warranty than there shouldn't be no fee. I believe you need to send in a invoice where you got the unit from?

I feel bad for referring numerous other law enforcement officers in my area to this unit. I won’t make that mistake again. Hard to recommend a unit that is no longer portable because the battery won’t stay in. I’m sure they wouldn’t believe my recommendation considering it’s covered in electrical tape to hold the door on.

FYI to everyone: a friend of mine had a extra clip... I installed it myself and it literally took less than 5 minutes.. didn't even have to open the unit up... Just loosen the four screws pop out the old one and pop in the new one with the little cylinder from the old one... The repair is a total no-brainer.. even for someone like me who is totally not handy and not technical....

This is just something to try...
I have the external charger with the extra battery. I pretty much swap the battery everyday or other day depending on use.
If you look at the scanner the display and keyboard are recessed. The front bezel protrudes.
I set it on a flat surface facedown and press down on the battery cover with the palm of my hand.
The clip closes and opens pretty easily that way for me.

And, to clarify, the mechanical tension on the larger battery is no different than the small (original) battery. The geometry of the latch is the same in both cases. I've tried hard on multiple units to intentionally break the latch by pressing down on it with no luck. There might just be some units out there with some variance in the plastic that makes them more susceptible to breaking, but we've not actually been able to confirm that on any unit we've checked (many).

Of the thousands of units we've sold, looks like fewer than a dozen reports of this actually happening, with many more paranoid that it might happen to them, too.
Add me to the list of reports.
Mine just broke.

So you're saying that a consumer of a $700 radio should have to take to it with a file and modify/alter the thing to achieve proper operation? And that even if it is a design flaw, it's somehow the OP's fault and he "broke it"?

Seems to me this radio should be placed inside a cabinet next to grandma's fine china, never to be touched again.

yes.

I called Uniden and attempted to order a new clip. As others have posted, the lady on the phone said per corporate, they are not permitted to sell me one. I explained that my unit is OUT of warranty and it doesn’t make sense to lose my scanner for up to 4 WEEKS (and $89) for this stupid clip I can easily swap out myself. The lady was pretty attitudish and kept saying no. At this point I literally have no idea what to do. Super glue lasted an hour:(
