I fashioned this clip from a small paper binder clip which is stiff enough to hold securely. I was able to repair the original plastic clip by embedding two 1 cm pieces of wire across the crack. I called Uniden about a replacement clamp, didn't know what I was talking and would email me when they found it, still waiting. The wire works perfect, so, may not need the plastic clamp. Seems like a much better idea, since it will last forever?
Nice Job

Something different there. How do you remove the battery with the clip?

Just pop it open like the original clip. With this, you may need a small screwdriver or something to get under it but it's really no different in operation than the OEM plastic clip.
It's actually a good idea plus a very nice job done by jcarter99.

I meant to say is what metal clip did you use? I know how to remove the clip. I had to replace it.

He said he used a standard "Binder Clip" which can be found at any office supply store for cheap. They use a black spring steel for the clip part and the handles you squeeze are semi-hardened steel but not so hard that they break when you form them to shape.
It's one of the silver binder clip handles that he formed into a new clip for his SDS100. The rest is discarded. each binder clip has two handles so if you screw one up, you still have another to try. Plus these are sold in packs and probably not individually as they are so cheap.
Google "Binder Clip" and look at what Office Depot or OfficeMax offers. The clip part will look triangular shaped when viewed from the end. That's the black part you will discard. You will only need the silver part.

Maybe the OP will come back and say which size binder clip he used as they come in maybe four or more sizes.

My reply above had nothing at all to do with removing and replacing the clip, just how you remove the battery like you asked!

The clip is 3/4" wide. They are 2.50 for a pack of 10 at Office Depot (maybe cheaper at Walmart). Gives you a few to practice, and some for your friends.

The trick is making the 90 at the top of the clip, needs just enough to hold it in place.

All your info is exactly how I figured you made the clip.
Good job in getting it formed into a working replacement. It looks nice for what it is!

Like you said, I bet making that 90 degree bend was a bear! The silver steel used for the binder clips handles is just hard enough to keep it from deforming with normal use which must make it a bear to form something from it.
I guess if you are really good and want more perfection that you could heat the silver steel so you can soften it some and then roll form it around the steel pin that you removed in order for your clip to fit in place!

Na, that sounds like too much work plus I don't see why your idea won't work for quite some time over the OEM plastic clip.

Good job in fabricating this steel clip from a binder clip handle. It should give others that have "clip" problems some ideas how to fabricate something like you did.

Another SDS100 owner with a broken battery clip here using the larger BT-954 battery :( I dont change my battery out... I just charge it in the radio. So the click broke from sitting there being latched on itś own.

I've been wondering if we will start seeing reports of this. It's a shame Uniden has not found someone that can make them out of a soft metal like aluminum kind of like the one the person made with a 3D printer.
If mine breaks, I'm going to fabricate some from the binder clips like jcarter99 did. That idea looks easy enough and appears it may last a while. I've only opened mine a few times just to check for any swelling of the large battery but it has always looked fine.

Yours also makes one wonder if there had been less pressure on the clip by removing some of the foam inside, would it have still broke. Or... maybe there was a bad batch of clips made. It has been a while now since anyone has reported this.

When my clip broke, I did not want to send my scanner in for the warranty repair and be without, therefore went months with it held together by my wife's fashionable hair ties (lol) So when I mentioned something about it in a thread, Jenna, from Uniden Support (here) PM'd me and requested my contact info and sent me a clip at no charge while I was fishing in Alaska. Was waiting for me when I got home and was very easy to install - thanks to a vid posted here - and seems to be holding well. My one and only complaint with Uniden and they provided fast customer service.

As previously mentioned, I broke mine while trying to dislodge it from a very snug leather case and I did not want to grapple and pull on the rubber duck so I stuck a finger into the bottom of the hole at the bottom of the case and pushed hard (directly on it) and it snapped like a chicken bone. Sure will remember not to do that again!

So for units that are out of warranty, Uniden email says it will cost $89 dollars for repair and shipping of an SDS 100 for a battery clip. Is this correct? Just one generic repair fee is given for an sds 100 that´s 89 dollars. I also have no reply from the uniden customer support ticket sent in via their system. Is there anyway to just buy the clip from Uniden? How can i get a hold of Jenna, from Uniden Support ?

I have had my SDS-100 for four months now and change the battery every couple days because I have three of them and have not had any problems at all with this clip. I push down on the bottom of the battery door and slowly slide the clip off and replace the battery then replace the door again pushing the bottom of the door down as far as it will go and slowly slide the clip back in place. I squeeze the door so tight that there is really no resistance on the clip at all. I really hope that Uniden comes up with a fix for this because it is a really black eye for a company that charges so much for a poorly designed scanner.

My 3rd clip broke last week. This one broke close to the end. The other 2 broke at the seam. And yes I hold the door tight opening and closing as I have always done.......

Well if anyone is rich enough to have a 3D printer I did find this Uniden MHS75 battery clip by MrPorcine it is for a different radio Uniden makes but it looks almost like the one on the scanner and maybe it would work. Just a suggestion could not find anything else.
I'm looking around in my area for someone has a 3D printer. I was planning to see how much they charge and have a few for back up if I can find someone can make them.

Would be nice but the last one I saw was from Sam's Club and it had a $1200.00 price tag on it. If you live in a area big enough some of the more tech savvy libraries might have one but I bet that they charge a good bit to use it. I have heard that a library here in Colorado Springs has one but don't know which one.

If you click on the "Order this printed" link for this part, it will give you a choice of places that will print the part and ship it to you.

And I would bet that it cost more than it is worth, no thanks if I cannot do it myself then I will pass and I do not need it as yet and hopefully Uniden will pull their collective heads out and make them more available to the public for replacement or here is a idea make something that is much more substantial for this thing. I love this scanner but the company is sadly lacking in customer service.
