For Phase II systems like Broward, the only two I recommend that are designed to handle linear simulcast modulation are the Uniden SDS series (100/200) or Unication G4/5. Anything else and ymmv depending on your setup, location relevant to the towers that you may being receiving, etc. My Uniden 536 works fine on PBC, Broward, Coral Springs etc., but its sits on my desk, doesn't move, and I'm using the stock telescoping antenna collapsed to limit my signal from multiple towers. Throw that thing on an external antenna and pre-amp and forget it. I personally like the G5 because it's so small and portable and receives literally on par with my APX's.
Put this in another thread but figured I'd add it here as well. Better late than never...

If you don't want to spend $600+and can put up with a very responsive development when issues are found I would strongly suggest the P25rx,

If you want to listen to a live feed of the P25rx, my Broadcastify feed is up on multiple systems, the main being a P25p2 simulcast that overwhelmed a 996p2 and a 436hp.

Good point. I have several NooElec dongles and run them in SDRTrunk which also handles TDMA very well. Have heard great things about BlueTail as well, and the developer is very responsive.

Since I do not live in listening range to the Broward system --- I want to get a consensus here before I submit this to the RR dB --- I was down south last week and ran DSD+ on the Broward system.

For Site 1.2 and 1.100 --- the four frequencies in RED below are >>NOT<< currently in the RR dB.

I am looking for the Astro P25 info for phase 1 and phase 2. Most of the time it will begin with 762.006250/851.006250
Maybe your Harris needs something different but I have the Broward P25 P2 Simulcast is working with the RR info on both a SDS100 and P25rx
the CS is also available on Broadcastify.

Add to that Broward is P2, but FLL, CS are both running P1, Plantation is the only one running P2 on that system.

Have you looked in the database ? What are you trying to program ? Sounds like from your other postings you are looking for the ASTRO 25 Channel ID tab info for CPS.

Have used scanners for 25 years but not anything since P25. Holy cow, just seeing how things have changed in scanners..!

Looking for tips on what scanner to get for Weston and Alligator Alley, mostly police/LE activity. Want handheld as this will also be used for attending IndyCar races. I don’t need to hear all of Broward, but it and/or downtown Miami would be a bonus, but not required.

Is SDS100 the sole recommendation? Is everything encrypted in Weston? Any issues being that I am as west as you can get? I can’t use an outdoor antenna unless it’s small and on the ground/window.

Thanks.

So the SDS100 will work fine for listening to BSO and any other local LE agency in Broward County. I also know that the BCD436HP will also work, but it is not great on the simulcast system. I had a BCD436HP and a Whistler, which both the BCD436 did ok, the Whistler was a giant paper weight. I ended up buying a Unication G5. It is not a scanner, but it works great on the simulcast system.

I agree with the SDS100 or SDS200 for Broward County. I also Have a Uniden BCD325HP that works so-so on the Broward system. Forget Whistler! My TRX-1 won't even unmute on the Broward County system.

If you want a solution that is used with a PC, you could use the Blue Tail P25RX, which does great on the Broward system. There's also SDRTrunk, and DSD+ Fastlane. These require only a couple of USB dongles or an Airspy to work. And, if you can use Linux, there's OP25. Only a single dongle or Airspy device required. It works great, but it's tricky to set up, and you must be somewhat knowledgeable about the Linux operating system, as OP25 doesn't run on Windows.

There are a couple Broadcastify feeds for BSO and FD in Broward. I have 2 running now on P25rx systems.

This one north of you.

This one has the FD but no LEO TGs.

The SDS100 works great on the P25 simulcast system. I use it when I'm there.

One minor, minor point. True the P25rx and -II require a PC to program, pretty much like all the others, but once running they can connect to Bluetooth or direct to amplified speakers without PC support. they can also run off a USB power charger pack for days. They work great on a mobile application as well. small and unobtrusive.

Thanks to all for the replies. Think I’ll just try the SDS100 and see how it goes. And I’ll add the BlueTail bit to my ever-growing list of Reasons I Need to Learn Linux (especially since I used Unix and DOS in the 1980’s!). That sounds like another great game changer. I’ll already be a kid in the candy store programming the SDS100 after years of doing it manually. (I had to look up “TG” in the glossary here, for example.) Thanks again.

FTR, the Bluetail P25RX runs under Windows or Linux. OP25 is Linux only.
