While watching the airshow from the medical center on Saturday, I saw two police vehicles go blazing by with lights and sirens blaring. I turned on my Cumberland county freqs and noticed I was not hearing anything on the Brunswick PD frequency of 155.37 I had my Uniden 325p2 with me and I have the DMR key unlocked. I decided to switch modes to digital and search for codes. I immediately heard encrypted sounds with a color code of 7. Well, I thought maybe it was just for extra security during the airshow? Nope, I just tried it again from home and it's still DMR CC7 Encrypted as I type this.

Anyone in Brunswick know when this happened? Must have been pretty recently as I know I've heard comms on their analog freq within the past few months.

I will turn on my baofeng 1701 and will listen in dmr today..I normally do not listen to Brunswick, but I have heard nothing about this. It is not that they are a super crime area so maybe they got some extra money to throw into radios. New license…

DMR
Thank you for the license and DMR links. Much appreciated! Looking forward to your findings with your radio.

I did hear occasionally what appeared to be encrypted transmissions. However, the signal strength was much weaker than their old one so at first I thought it was just breaking up, but after closer listening it must have been encrypted. Other than that, not much else to report. While nothing surprises me, I still do not understand the need for encryption in Brunswick. There are certainly other areas that would be more understandable but as I stated, money sometimes becomes available and there are good salespeople selling certain types of technology.

As you may or may not know, Lincoln county went DMR (not encrypted) about a year and a half ago, but it only lasted long enough for the Sheriff to determine that transmission were being missed, voices were distorting and public safety was being affected so they went back to analog. Now, I am not aware if they are working on it to improve since maybe there were specific problems as to installation, but for now we are staying analog.

Thanks for your report. I agree, I don't see why Brunswick needed to go encrypted either. I do remember hearing about Lincoln County going digital, but didn't not know about their issues and returning to analog. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for all your help. I guess this needs to be monitored more and confirmed so they can change Brunswick in the RR database.

Yes, I receive Falmouth and Freeport DMR here on portable so Brunswick should be relatively strong. If I get
a chance I will listen a bit today.

Since threads get locked for no good reason and further replies can't be made.

Freeport FD has gone back to analog.

Thanks on the thread. According to my listening, and frankly those departments are secondary to me, Freeport and Falmouth PD are DMR which I think are generally in the clear on their dispatch, both of which I have heard today, but I do not receive tac freqs so assume per others they are encrypted. Freeport fire is non-DMR..just heard them 10 minutes ago. Again, I do not listen daily, but that is the status of all today. As stated above, Brunswick appears DMR encrypted. Please anyone who listens more correct me if I am wrong…thanks

Freeport FD has gone back to analog.
Threads get auto locked after a period of no activity. What we call "zombie threads".
If a thread has had no discussion in over two years, like that one, it doesn't need to be brought up again.
A new one can be started.

I cannot confirm 100% but just listened to Brunswick in analog and digital and they are definitely digital and sounds encrypted on 155.37 on my 1701. Since I do not have dmr upgrade in my sds200 I am not familiar with how the encrypted looks on the 200

I believe you can set it up for single frequency trunk with ID search on?
I don't have the Butel software in front of me at the moment so I couldn't tell you.

I've pretty much moved on from that series of scanner years ago, except for one that I use at home for Low Band DXing.

I just set it up manually to try it out. It was actually very easy. Got a talk group ID immediately. It's 725. I may do the same on my 996p2 and let it log for a bit using ARC-XT Pro.
