Thanks everyone for all the input. I spent money I didn't have and got a refurbished Starlink mini. As soon as my account was active I was able to switch to the $10 plan. Device should be here by early next week and I'll update how it performs on Ooma.

Again, I appreciate all the input and I'm all ready for the next no comms/power event...which won't happen since I spent all this money on backup power and now the Starlink. :p

That's very, very interesting because last night I was curios about this so-called $10 plan and AI told me it was for people who HAD Starlink prior and it seemed like it was more or less a marketing thing by Starlink to get the customer back. Much like how SiriusXM offered a cheaper rate for me when I wanted to cancel.

Did you buy the Mini on eBay?

And just note, you can just set it on the ground when you need the Internet. No need to mount to your house or anything like that. I'm not too sure how it'll perfoerm during a downpour though. AI and a Reedit post I read gave less than favorable results on service during heavy rain. Moderate rain should be okay though.

For the Ooma, since the Mini use a built-in router you'll probably need another router using WDS. Read through this: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/how-do-i-use-wds-with-two-wire-hzIr64qbSsuW3fwFkiIpxA

Also, I WOULD utilize Wi-Fi calling in your cell phone/s... Just know e-911 may not have your real address with that, and your cell phone will probably have you read through some legalize when enabled. YMMV and I don't use Wi-Fi calling unless I had to.

It's not "so-called". I ordered the device (which creates an account) with the $50 plan, went to my subscription-manage and had the $10 option and switched to that.

No.

Seeing how people use this while mobile that seems obvious to most people.

Why? Just plug the Ooma into one of the available ports on the SL router.

I have WiFi calling enabled on my phone currently and when coverage is weak in my house it switches to that with no issues and no "legalize" to read through beforehand.

You really need to stop relying on AI for all your information.

This is becoming a very disturbing trend, not just around here with particular members, but in general. It's bad enough we seem to be creeping more towards a post-"facts matter" society by the day, but now we have to deal with AI's flaws. Google isn't helping by making the first result for any search AI results, that's for sure. /soapbox

You hit it out of the park here. (y) One thing I will add - I have been immediately scrolling past the "AI overview". Well, do it enough times and Google moves it down to the middle of the first page.

I fear the harm AI will do to society will outweigh the good.

I wasn't aware that the Mini had an Ethernet port.

I have WiFi calling enabled on my phone currently and when coverage is weak in my house it switches to that with no issues and no "legalize" to read through beforehand.

I'm surprised because when I activated it in my older phone it did. Thus why I mentioned it - which sounds prudent to do so by the phone manufacturer or the carrier...

You really need to stop relying on AI for all your information.

NEVER!

I usually check more than one model... sometimes.

You wanna know what's even worse? Wikipedia and the whole of the Internet in general. Where do these models get their information in the first place? God's rear end?

My everyday go-to AI is Perplexity which DOES cite its sources which I like. I think the problem there is Reddit crap... Which is where this AI loves getting its information. Heck, Google props that stupid website up all the time. Google manipulates the search results - Google is too big for the britches in ways I won't get into here.

AI isn't perfect, but getting better by the year. I used it to code a massive amount of stuff.

AI is just artificial intelligence absorbing flawed human information and regurgitating it. It's just able to do it at a much more accelerated rate. Both are now feeding each other flawed information. It's another race to the bottom.

Here's what AI cited as a source: Starlink Adds Cheapest Roam Plan to Date - 10GB for $10/mo

The article is only 4 months old and says the following: You cannot activate any hardware on this Roam 10GB plan. It's only available to existing users.

Maybe Starlink changed something or the article is wrong?
I don’t really give a crap what any article says. I know what I know. Why must you argue about this? Do you not believe me? Actually I don’t care, keep on with your incorrect info, you’re only making yourself look bad.

Anyway, let’s get back in topic and stop will all the mis/disinformation.

I'm not arguing with you, I was just pointing out what AI cited as a source. I guess I should have added better context to my previous post. AI wasn't wrong, the article was. And the Internet has been like this practically since day one. That's where AI sources most (not all) of its information.

Believe me when I tell you one day AI will be a benefactor for many people including the disabled, like the blind. In fact, the current administration is pushing for the advancement of AI, making sure that the United States is the forerunner of AI technological achievement.

Then again, there's always the risk of being turned into a copper top... :O

I'm not arguing with you...
Yes, you are. Kevin has told you, more than once, about his direct experience with Starlink accounts. You are telling him that what he has personally experienced is incorrect. It's the classic "Yes, it is." "No, it isn't." back and forth from the Monty Python Argument Clinic skit.

I was just pointing out what AI cited as a source.
Nobody cares. Unless you have direct experience with the subject at hand, it's quite possible that you have nothing to contribute to this thread.

What sucks is this thread was cruising along just fine, lots of good info/input until...well, we all know until when.

Looking back through all your posts in this thread and you have provided zero useful information. Everything was from AI and just plain wrong. Why did you even bother posting here? It’s almost like you just posted to post.
