BUTEL Version 0.9 Build 4 is now available for the DV1. The program now includes some additional fields for various receiver settings.

Virtual Tuner ?

Just wondering if there are any plans with the Butel software to have a virtual tuner so that the DV1 can be controlled from a PC.

I did notice when I first ordered the software about 3 or 4 weeks ago that there was a picture of what look like a virtual tuner but thats no longer showing on the Butel DV1 page.

Thanks

For any Linux guys in the AOR group, the Butel DV1 software works just fine under Wine. No special wine tricks or anything else was needed on my Fedora 23 box. :)

Clock setter also worked!

REALLY need a field for LSQ etc. I moved a bunch of stuff around and channels defaulted to noise squelch,, arrrgh, scans reeeel sloooow. Then I had to go to each channel on the radio and manually program and write to LSQ.

Ok. Got the radio Friday and been reading the manual.Haven't had much time myself to digest it as this is not a typical scanner which I am used too_Of course it's a receiver not a scanner.Used the Butel to program my PRO 651 and it works flawlessly so I am going to go with the software for the DV1.

Thanks for your input.

I'm good then.Thanks. Your opinion of the software?

Butel's software is coming along. Not quite there yet, but each upgrade has offered more options. Unfortunately, my DV1 is now gone--- I found out (and just in the nick of time) that the unit I bought through Amazon had no U.S.A. warranty coverage, and quite possibly, no warranty coverage at all, because it was an unblocked version from an unauthorized dealer (third-party through Amazon).

There seems to be a immense grey market with the DV1 (just check eBay), and apparently AOR America has no way to deal with it. One might think that they could offer persons returning a unit for service (warranty or non-warranty) the option of receiving back their unit blocked to conform with FCC regulations. Apparently, that option is NOT available. That likely explains one of the reasons that the radio is so much more popular in Europe and Asia than it is here in the United States.

I'll have more thoughts about the DV1 situation coming up over the next several weeks. For the time being, I recommend anyone in the U.S. considering the DV1 make sure you get it from one of the authorized U.S. dealers so that you get the proper version of the radio. I liked the radio very much, and was in the process of really discovering and sharing some of its more nuanced features and functions with other members here on the forums, but alas, it was not to be.

Getting back to the Butel software--- since AOR does not offer software with the DV1, the Butel program appears the only game in town right now, and it is really a necessity in helping to program the radio and keeping things logical and efficient.

AOR DV-1 And Butel Software

MStep,,

Can you advise on how the AOR DV-1 deals with encrypted P25 signals? Does it mute them or receive encryption noise?

I dont know if ive heard any encrypted p25 on mine. I heard p25 but must been bot encrypted, cause it sounded great.
I did hear a muted dmr signal, dony know if it was encrypted or not.
I no longer have mine either right now, hopefully soon ill have mine back. Had send mine in for repairs across the water cause i had a unvlocked version, and aor America wouldn't repair mine either.

It seems the DV-1 unmutes on encrypted P25, spits out a lot of gibberish and ends with a high pitched tone. At least this is what I've heard on the system I'm casually listening to.

That could actually be good if you are attempting to log activity using the search function in swaths of frequencies, providing that you have the radio set with various parameters including auto logging to bank 39 and recording. I would at least give an indication that there is some activity on that frequency that might require further investigation.

The Coast Guard uses P25, sometimes encrypted. The same NAC code appears on the DV1, but it sound like aliens talking when they are not in the clear... Keith

Went over to AOR in Torrance yesterday (20 min from my house) and spoke with Taka for about 45 min.
Went to have an AR8200 MKIII mod to the (D) version with built in P25, USB, CTCSS/DCS, and record.
Taka and I spoke about the AR-DV1 at some length. Told him that I was pleased with the latest update (as I have posted elsewhere). Think he said that MStep had just spoke to him by phone. Taka been getting quite a few calls from folks like us.
According to Taka: Sales of DV1 going well, much more so in Europe and Japan than in USA. Taka acknowledged that the government was their big market, much more than 90%. He said he appreciated all our support as scanner/receiver enthusiasts, but we make up the minority of purchasers.
Firmware updates are still going to be coming. AOR in Japan busy with some other project until early March. Then they will be working on 6.25 Khz NXDN and Phase 2 P25. They expect that to be doable with FW updates. Taka said he will be in contact with Gommert at Butel for further cooperation in improving software.
Finally, Taka told me that the AR-DV1 is the de facto (de facto is my interpretation of his comments) replacement for the AR8600 series. I asked him specifically if buying the AR8600 series is a good idea at this point for anybody, and he said, they would be better off with the AR-DV1. AOR still plans on doing a lot more work to improve the receiver. For us, but mostly for their big commercial market.
That's the latest "straight from the horse's mouth" update on the AR-DV1.

Steve AA6IO

6.25 kHz ndxn and the phase 2 P25 sounds like a great upgrade! Good to see they plan on doing some nice firmware updates in the future I can't wait to get mine back from repairs, I miss it a lot.

Missing Feature In Newer Builds ???

I wrote to Gommert at Butel to ask about a feature that was available in Build 1 under "Tools" that involved frequency lookups for registered RR users. On my version of Build 4, the feature seems to have disappeared---- Gommert advised his Build 4 still has the feature. Has anyone else noticed its absence?

I wrote back to Gommert with a followup-- will keep all interested parties informed, as it was a very nifty and powerful function of his DV1 software.
