• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The CD typically has the videos, tutorials and the help files that the downloaded CPS does not have.

Looking to Apply for MOL

I am looking to apply for an MOL account. What are the requirements to be accepted for an account? Also, the application asks for a company name. What would I put in as an individual?

There really are no requirements. I signed up as an individual. For the Company Name, simply enter "FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY."

Registered for MOL

I registered for MOL this morning. When they call me, what kind of questions will they ask?

I received my emails last night saying I was approved for my MOL access. So I logged in and submitted the License Agreement for the software. So should I just wait to get an email from them saying they added the software to my MOL account or should I call to check on it?

Most of the time on new accounts, even when you do a search for CPS, you won't find it. So, you will more than likely have to call them to have them add it under your MOL account so you can purchase it. Upon them doing that, you'll be able to see it when searching the MOL catalog. Then you'll be able to buy it.

If you do a search for it and see it, then there is no need to call them, just add it to your "cart" and buy it.

Ok if it doesn't show up tomorrow I'll call Motorola to have them add the software to my MOL account.

Thanks for your responses.

Just curious. How much does the software cost? After forking out mad cash on a Moto radio, you would think they would include hat stuff.

Most Motorola software runs around 275-325 bucks a pop. There is some software that is significantly less, but it is for radios not normally used by hams and hobbyists.
I wonder where all the horror stories come from about opening an MOL. I opened mine with a lot of ease, and with people who were extremely pleasant to deal with. When I was asked what I was using the account for, I said point blank I was an amateur and what radios I was going to need software for, so I'm signed up as AMATEUR.
Don't be afraid to sign up for an MOL is you're serious about radio. If you're not, don't bother. Motorola equipment is NOT for the weak at heart.

Ok got an email this morning saying that I've been authorized to purchase software from either MOL or by calling them. Logged into my MOL account to verify and here's what I've found.

Astro 25 software won't show up under XTS5000,2500, or 1500. But will show up under the PR1500 is this normal or should it be showing up under the other radio's as well? And Astro 25 mobile won't show up under the XTL5000, 2500, or 1500 but shows up under the PM1500 mobile same question as above?

Also the Astro Portable and Mobile for the Astro Saber and XTS3000 won't show up under either radio and also the Astro Spectra as well so same question as above should it be showing up since I've been authorized to purchase software or will I just have to do a search for it? And the above is just by looking through the online catalog haven't tried searching yet.

I also spoke to someone at Motorola before submitting this reply and he said that the software wouldn't show up under the XTS5000,2500, or 1500 since there higher tier radio's and that I would have to place some sort of special order however he used a different term in order to purchase a subscription. So basically what I'm asking is is the guy from Motorola correct or was he just feeding me a line just to get rid of me

After submitting my earlier reply I went back to MOL and tried to search using the part number for the Astro Portable and Mobile software and low and behold the software comes up by searching for it but won't appear under any of the radio's in the online catalog. I'm not sure why but as long as I can find it by doing a search I'm happy.

Their search engine SUCKS big time. Typically, you'll have to search using key words like "software" and "Astro". If you have a part number, it works great, but nomenclature alone leaves a lot to be desired. It would be very nice if you could find software by "browsing" under each radio. It makes sense to me, but I guess Motorola thinks otherwise.

What I always find amusing is the pricing. I had a government account and had awesome prices on just about everything. Now I just have an end-user account and it's not so great. My software prices are about the same as they used to be, but parts are a different story. I bet my price for CPS is different than yours. I swear they have a monkey that decides what price everyone should pay...lol

The MOL lets you sign up, sign the basic agreement. Then you have to call the 1800 number and request that they send you the professional software questionnaire on your MOL account. You fill that out and it submits online to them and the software department accepts it or declines it and emails you the reasons why they declined you. On the professional questionnaire it ask you questions like (How many radios you own or in yoru fleet, whats the serial numbers, how far is a authorized programmer for motorola (dealer) and so on)

$300.00 for a 3 year sign up--included electronic updates

I never had to do that. Are you talking about the "Professional" CPS? I've never had a reason to buy that kind. Mine are/were MTS2000, Astro portable and mobile, Astro25 Portable and mobile and HT1000. My price on each of the above was $265.00 (except when I was in Spain, they charged me 265,00 Euros...).

Same here I didn't have to sign or submit anything special for the Professional Series CPS. It shows up under all the radio's that are apart of the Professional Series like HT1250, HT1550 etc in the MOL online catalog under software and programming. I think Motorola as relaxed its policy in terms of who they will let purchase the Professional Series software now a days.
