• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The wait for MOL approval

I received my MOL account approval Friday, 30Sep, 17 days after l submitted the questionnaire. Good timing since I only finished installing Windows 7 on a PC Thursday.

It's really sad that for what they charge for CPS, it takes so long for the customer to get it. It's no wonder so many choose to buy their CPS on E-Bay. $17, & the disc arrives in a few days.

When I purchased my subscription a year ago it didn't take as long as he stated it took to get things going for me. And buying it off EBay maybe cheaper but you don't get the benefit of software updates and firmware updates they release by going through EBay.

Yup, while other radio manufacturers charge allot less or include it with a radio purchase. With Motorola, you wanna play you gotta pay. I let my subscription run out about a year ago. I know I don't have the latest and greatest CPS, but what I have works and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Friday, 7Oct, I received notice that my software license has been accepted.

So, ~two weeks for my account, one week for my license approval and maybe just a few days before the CPS software shows up in my catalog view? It wasn't there as of this morning (a Saturday).

Maybe by Friday I'll be able to buy the CPS. They seem to like Fridays, :)

I didn't have to wait until Friday after all. I received an email from Motorola on the 10th saying my case was closed and my account was authorized to purchase Motorola Licensed software. They even included the url.

As easy as buying a car :)

I tried recently to purchase some Moto VHF radios for a local SAR group and to obtain a MOL account for thier CPS, after 3 weeks of hearing nothing from Motorola except that you forgot to dot your eyes and cross your tees then another 3 weeks of nothing after the dotting and crossing of letters, our director changed the course and we ended up purchasing Harris radios on another State agencies contract.

No issue with the Harris radios either and it looks like a fair portion of my Pacific Northwest State is going Harris for the State and some local PD since Motorola is so hard to deal with lately.

I used to be Motorola 100% but not anymore as I have fallen for the Harris product.

So where's the download...

MOL sent me an email letting me know my my purchase was complete and to 'contact' them with the factory order and part numbers listed, so the software I paid for will be uploaded to my acct for me to download. So I 'contacted' them by opening a case, on the 17th.

Still waiting...

Try giving customer support a phone call. It sped things up when I bought a software license.

Note to wu7e:

Your 'fun' may not be over yet - not if you want the 25kHz EID so that you can use CPS to program a radio for use in amateur bands. The EID is free, but you'll have to take a "training" course. In my case (I'm sure they've improved things by now...';-) ), I had to call customer support to get them to allow me to sign up for the course. After completion of the course (~5 minutes of mind-numbing slides), I waited 3 days and then called customer support to get them to 'rush' the approval through. Then I ordered the EIDs through MOL and it only took a few days for the email to arrive.

I'd suggest you start this adventure now if you haven't already done so....

Enjoy! (and thank you for doing things the right way...)

This is just unacceptable in today's world. In what other segment of business where Paypal, or credit cards allow for instant transfer of funds, do we have to wait weeks for the delivery of product? It's not like they need to wait to receive the product. They already have the CPS in stock. Sure Motorola makes a great product, but their attitude is poor, & many are going to other vendors. Harris, & Kenwood come to mind.

Try doing business with Keysight, the former HP/Agilent folks regarding their Genesys software. We wanted to do what they term a "platform transfer" and it took a month to just get a price. We decided to go back to an older version I felt better about using. After receiving the installation file, license file, and dongle, we still couldn't use it because the driver for the dongle wasn't included. A couple of phone calls and two weeks of emails between myself and their technical support person finally resulted in getting the driver. We originally installed it on a Windows 7 machine, but were told it wouldn't work under Windows 7. So, I installed a 32 bit version of XP on an i5 machine because we were also told it wouldn't run on a 64 bit system. Then, we had to find a Core2 Duo PC and reinstall everything on it because even though the operating system was 32 bit, the processor was 64 bit. So, though aggravating, dealing with Motorola isn't all that unusual in terms of having to jump through hoops and then wait.

True about the updates.

But I could buy a newly released, updated versions of the CPS for the next ten years on Ebay and still pay less than what Moto wants.

And receive it in a timely manner.

A 3 year subscription on MOL is $165. Not out of line as far as I'm concerned.
