Well I imported Camden County fire system into my Whistler. Its shows that its all there yet the only things I have heard so far is Fire/EMS dispatch which I believe is Conventional. I'm only about 8 miles from Camden county any reason can not hear any talkgroups?

Well it could just be that the system was quiet while you were listening. But if youre 8 miles from Camden County and near a cell tower, chances are that's why you aren't hearing anything. Reception really starts to degrade about 4 miles outside county limits. while scanning the system, do you notice the "T" flashing in the top portion of the screen? if so then you're receiving the control channel and it should pass some audio when traffic comes across.

The biggest problem with the Radio Shack, GRE, and now Whistler scanners is overloading the front end of the receivers. If you live in an area such as Camden County, Philadelphia, New York, etc. You need a REALLY low gain antenna and in some cases, you'll need to run the attenuator on those units as well. The large amount of 800/900 MHz. activity in that area just swamps those receivers. They are so sensitive but have ZERO selectivity; they hear everything. The Uniden's are considerably better in this regard; however, when right under neither a site; never will perform well as they are simply to broad a receiver to have any selectivity. This is why actually band specific radios such as the XTS/APX series from Motorola ALWAYS work best. I personally sold off ALL of my non-Uniden scanners years ago as they just got wasted when I lived in the Cherry Hill area.

Camden County is mainly an encrypted system. What you may hear is the EMS or Fire but other than that, not much else. I go to Camden Co frequently and I hate that fact. I have a PSR800 and a Uniden 436 and I spend more time using them in other counties

Yes I know that PD is encrypted. Like I said I hear the dispatch for Fire/EMS but never any response on the talkgroups such as North Fire, South Fire etc. Yet my Uniden Home Patrol 2 which I also own has heard activity on East Fire. I would have to say Whistler is a better unit than HP2. That's why I'm a little confused about this.

Pd461, where exactly are you monitoring from? This has a lot to do wwith what you hear. I've actually been well inside the county and unable to monitor the P25 system using the PSR 800 (what the Whistler 1080 is cloned after) due to my proximity to a cell tower.
