The biggest problem with the Radio Shack, GRE, and now Whistler scanners is overloading the front end of the receivers. If you live in an area such as Camden County, Philadelphia, New York, etc. You need a REALLY low gain antenna and in some cases, you'll need to run the attenuator on those units as well. The large amount of 800/900 MHz. activity in that area just swamps those receivers. They are so sensitive but have ZERO selectivity; they hear everything. The Uniden's are considerably better in this regard; however, when right under neither a site; never will perform well as they are simply to broad a receiver to have any selectivity. This is why actually band specific radios such as the XTS/APX series from Motorola ALWAYS work best. I personally sold off ALL of my non-Uniden scanners years ago as they just got wasted when I lived in the Cherry Hill area.
