SDS100/SDS200: Can a "backup" SD card only be written in the scanner?

I ask because I have tried and always get the SD card error message. I believe I have asked this before, however a "Senior moment" has kicked in!.

Read the scanner with sentinel, turn off and swap SD cards in the scanner. Write to the scanner

You should have the same DB on both SD cards

You don't need to have the card in a scanner to write it. Just check the box labeled show all drives or suchlike in the write to scanner dialog to get the USB card reader to show as an option.

I just use a USB card reader/writer on my computer and save the wear and tear on my scanner by hooking and unhooking things on my SDS200.

I have found using an SD Card reader makes for faster read/writes to the SD Card with Sentinel. It also makes it a lot easier to do multiple cards at the same time or if you have a mobile scanner in the car. Using an SD Card reader allows you to program the SD-Card type scanner in the house and just take the card out to the car.

Noticing you mention a SDS 100, on portable scanners, the metal clip holding the SD card can get unhinged and be a pain to re-position. So you need to consider that potential problem.

On mobile scanners, using a card reader is the way to go, especially if you are writing the full database.

If you are trying to write from Sentinel to a new (or newly formatted) SD card, Sentinel won't recognize the card until you use the "Clear User Data" function in Sentinel on that card.

Check the box that says "display all drives" when using "Clear User Data" on a new (or newly formatted) card. Select the card reader drive and finish the process.

if you don’t have any luck with that, try another new, or known good SD card, or download and use this utility to format your card.

If Sentinel still doesn’t recognize the card reader when you check the “display all drives” box, you may have hardware problems with the card reader or it’s cable.
