LOOKS GOOD IN WYOMING BUT it depends on the way you driv e out that way as there are several states that have restrictions. A side benefit of being a ham operator as almost every state excludes hams from any restrictions.

oh, I thought like many ask when traveling, is a scaner legal in a state, not does the scanner pick up anything. As hams we never thought about scanning in a car, because we sort of had a get out of jail card. Over the years I have been stopped for speeding but never asked about the scanner. In fact a few times, because of all the antennas on the car, I think I got a free pass because I was not stopped. When I had antenna designs that were crazy looking, I was a dead give away, just a crazy radio guy. When I had conservative looking radio antennas, I was left alone.

my wife has lots of family in Wyoming so i spend time there so can use my pro96 in the state

I have a pro 96 and it works on Wyolink which covers most everything public service. It is a bit tricky because you have to load custom tables because it is VHF P25. In Cheyenne, Casper and Gillette there are 800 towers that you can just load the control channels which makes it much easier. If you can, get a codeplug from somebody that already has it loaded. My 96 has gotten old and doesn't hear very well on VHF so I mostly listen to the 800 tower with it.
