It’s kind of all over the map. They had no Cuyahoga County Radio ID plan, or they abandoned it and intentionally went crazy after numerous public records requests and they found people were actually interested in radio IDs.

Thank you so much for this information. I have been trying for a year to capture who is who but near impossible. Each broadcast is so short and I can't catch Unit number or city. This helps a lot.

Actually, MARCS assigns IDs on random, as-requested basis, and it's very rare for any county to have assigned ID ranges unless they're extremely proactive. In most counties, you might see specific agencies with a lot of IDs in a particular range at first, but that's only because they requested IDs for a whole mess of radios at the same time. After that initial blast, they'll be assigned on a random basis as new radios are added here and there.

I can think of only a few counties where they actually have an ID plan, and Cuyahoga isn't one of them. For most counties, it's simply XXYYYYY, where XX is the county number and YYYYY is the randomly-assigned individual ID for that radio.

Lake County has a beautiful plan.

You’re right, for MARCS, it’s rare.

Their new plan is better than encryption since it is now near impossible to identify communities, especially for police who are using single talkgroups for multiple communities.

Thank you. The following series of radio ID's for Chagrin Valley Dispatch is very active (26 radios in group) but I just can't seems to pin down who -

If it helps, leave the scanner on and record onto a computer via a stereo plug. If your scanner records as an OEM feature, even better. I bet you'll at least figure a few out that you wouldn't have otherwise.

That is how I capture hits. But in Northeast Ohio when you have 10-15 communities using a single TG no number of recorded hits will let you identify RID's which are no longer issued in sequence. You have to be lucky and actually hear a broadcast whereby the dispatcher calls by name or by unit Number (rare occurrence here) and hope that the broadcast is long enough to be able to read screen and grab RID number.

Colin9690, if you want to get a picture of the issue we have in Northeast Ohio just log onto Chagrin Valley Dispatch website and you will be able to see what our issue is here. Thanks for your input.

I do admit I know nothing about how they do it up there, but seeing all the forum talk about that topic/area, I can see that it's a cluster. I forget how well I have it down here in the capitol city.
