Nice to see the change has occured

Carnival DOES allow amateur radio equipment on board at this time. There were no limitations listed. The following site shows that it can be brought and operated on board.

-Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), ham radios, satellite phones, transformers, lasers and laser pointers

Satphones and EPIRBs not being allowed is interesting. I'm guessing they would lump a PLB in with EPIRBs. I'd love to know why Sat phones aren't allowed.

Because they cannot charge you for using it.

Plus, they want to make sure someone is not coordinating an attack on the ship. (Pirates, terrorists, competing cruise line, etc.)

We just went on the Carnival Conquest out of Ft Lauderdale last November a week after Hurricane Matthew tore thru the islands (they changed our itinerary) and I boarded with my Yaesu VX-7R and my BC396 no problem. They did confiscate our bottle of wine tho...

I assume this would mean you would not be permitted to take your radio off the ship but clearly states you can use them on board.

Yes, however leaving the ship with them, you are now under the rules of the Country you are visiting and that may vary.

I do know I applied to take/use my radios in Bermuda and was granted permission based on my US Amateur License.

I took my 396XT and my VX-7R aboard the Carnival Conquest in Nov 2016 and did not have any problems. Walked around Nassau all day and there were numerous policemen in sharp white uniforms at every major intersection and although many eyed my radios with curiosity only one of them asked about it. When he heard 'amateur radio' he just smiled and nodded like he'd heard it many times before. No problems whatsoever.
