To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have programmed a few CDM1550's not the LS model and it seems to have a couple difference which I am trying to work out see below, any help would be appreciated:

Model AAM25SKF9DU5AN

Have a couple programming questions:

#1 I am not going to be using the trunking features can i disable them?
#2 Seems like the conventional channels are limited to 16 is this correct?
#3 I can not get the MDC activated on the Conventional Channels but it seems to be active for Trunking any thoughts?

We have three 1550LS+'s in our ambulance. They are all programmed for strictly conventional (not LTR), and there are about 34 channels programmed into each one.

We're not using MDC yet, but others with the same radio are here in this area.

So, to answer all three of your questions, they are all doable.

I think you may be able to assign more than 16 personalities to a zone, and you can have multiple zones, and if set up right, the zones are pretty much invisible. We've got all 34 personalities assigned to Zone 1. I don't think the LS is different from the LS+ in this regard as we also have several 1250's and they have more than 16 personalities in Zone 1, too.

As for trunking, you just don't use it. Program conventional personalities, not LTR or trunking.

I am not sure what you are doing when you program the MDC, so I can't comment on why you can't get it to work.

The model radio you have is only 16 channels conventional and will not do MDC on conventional. Motorola used to do updates on those radios, making them 128 chan with MDC plus LTR. I don't know if they still do. It ran about $75.00 to $100.00, or if you are brave enough. look around for the unofficial Waris Lab, and update the radio yourself. Just be forewarned incorrectly doing it will at the least give you an untuned radio or the worst a brick.

As of March of 2014, Motorola will not upgrade the CDM1550LS+ to 128 channel anymore. The Waris series has hit end of life. I bought a couple very cheap due to this. Good radio though if you only need a couple of channels for actual use. Or use trunking.

I might try doing the mod myself if I care......so far, they work for what I bought them for.
