You are correct, sounds like they went live on Friday. Police Dispatch 8208 and Fire Dispatch is 8240. There are 5 additional talk groups we still need to identify their use:
8272
8304
8336
8368
8400

Well yeah, because 98% of the subscribers on the SmartZone system are state agencies. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to create an entirely new category for a handful of talkgroups. Also, both are lit up in a bright green highlight, kind of hard to miss them.

If the explanation was offered, I'm sorry I missed it - Why on the NJSP Smartzone system instead of NJICS?

Also, the Essex County county agencies/municipalities page still shows Cedar Grove PD as using T-band frequencies.

It was stated in the other thread on this topic that they tested coverage on both systems, and were not satisfied with coverage on the NJICS.

Right, and until someone confirms that they are gone for good and no longer using UHF for any purpose, they'll remain there.

NJSP Smartzone system simulcast uses sites in West Orange and Little Falls. NJICS simulcast Site 1 uses sites in West Orange (different tower than NJSP) and Garrett Mountain. Little Falls NJSP site is closer to Little Falls than NJICS Garrett Mountain site. I guess that makes a difference.

The hilly terrain of Essex County is a big challenge for radio transmissions. I live about about 2 miles from Cedar Grove and was never able to reliably pick them up on UHF. They sound much better now on NJSP.

The NJSP site at the Channel 50 tower at Montclair State is ideal for Cedar Grove coverage. I suspect the entire town is line of site from the antenna. Way back in the early 80's when NJSP were on low band and way before the internet I used to dream of having a remote receiver on that tower so I could monitor all of Troop B from my apartment in Belleville. The loop around the Cedar Grove Reservoir not far from the site used to be a very popular site for runners like myself. I understand it has been closed off.

I confirmed tonight that 8272 is EMS Dispatch. Based on what I heard while they were testing a while back, I think 8304 is OEM.

Any chance like NJSP and EC DOC that they will be simulcasted on NJICS? My spot for the 800 Mhz system is not great.

I think that all users will be on NJICS within a year.

Hope someone can help me out. Trying to find a way to program a Homepatrol 2 to monitor the new cedar grove fd channel but can’t figure it out. The old UHF is only used for the initial dispatch but any communication after that is on the new system.

The easiest solution would be to create a favorites list and add the NJSP system. If the CG FD channel is all you care about then just add that talkgroup to the favorites list.

Hey All, I have BCD436HP, can't seem to pick up Cedar Grove (FD PD or EMS) Have it scanning NJSP and Outside Agencies but I'm not getting anything. Updated everything through Sentinel. I've tried many different things but ,other than an old analogue this is my first go with a scanner, so I'm probably doing something obviously wrong. Thanks for any help or advice.
