I'm hearing more chatter on the digital NAC: A3 channel but the signal strength on the scanner isn't very strong.
I live, literally as the crow flies, about 2 miles straight across the valley from the Berlin barracks at the same elevation and although they are broadcasting loud and clear, I get 1-2 bars signal strength on my BCD996P2 Uniden scanner.

My ST-2 antennae is outside up on a pole about 20' above the roof top so I can't blame that for the low bar strength.

They have been coming in a bit clearer though over the last week or two which is good!

Could it be your coax?

I can receive it in P25 mode loud and clear in Burlington and as far south as Royalton on a handheld (Whistler 1040).

FWIW, P25 is alive and well for all-around use by the Berlin barracks lately. It’s been a while since I heard anything analog.

I agree that P25 is working well for Berlin VSP. They come in loud and clear.
I, too, can pick up digital across the water over in New York and New Hampshire but their signal strength is 4-5 bars on my Uniden BCD996P2 scanner. Berlin signal strength on my BCD996P2 Uniden scanner is 1-2 bars.

I don't believe the low 1-2 bar signal strength has anything to do with my coax.

Have any of the other barracks gone P25 yet? It's been a while since I've tuned in to VSP.

I just heard Williston VSP transmit on a NAC frequency. I think it was A1 but I'm not 100% sure on that.
They are 50 miles from me but the transmission came in so nice and clear, you'd have thought they were right outside!

I'll keep watch on this....

Correct, they are using NAC 0A1.

No doubt there are more repeaters in use now than there had been; I can easily hear things I’ve hardly been able to in the past.

I'm surprised Vermont is allowing digital communication! I thought Act250 would have applied to the radio spectrum also and limited the state to perpetual Morse code for all eternity!!!
(Sorry: lived there a few decades and I couldn't resist!)
Glad the coverage is so good for you!

Might not be more repeaters, simply just that digital audio preforms significantly better than analog when on the fringe areas of coverage. You'd be surprised.

Based on patterns, we can figure out the other NACs as well.

Looks like NAC = troop number. Pretty easy to remember, I guess.

Just you watch - someone will come out of the woodwork with a claim that P25 affects reproduction rates in the Bicknell's Thrush population

Hi, just saw the post about Williston vsp transmitting on p25 , will a Uniden home patrol scanner be able to detect the p25 signal?

Williston VSP has been testing on the 460.2250 Frequency with NAC: A1
They've been coming in lousy these last few weeks since they made the switch over. If what I've been hearing over my BCD996P2 scanner with an ST2 antenna up on a pole outside is any indication, I have no idea how they can communicate between each other on their radios. Absolute garbage.
This mornings testing has them coming in much clearer.

a Real Two-Way radio vs a Scanner are major considerations when monitoring these Systems.

I'm not familiar with two-way radios but if your saying they transmit better and that those using them can hear better than what I'm hearing on my scanner, they must be having some trouble or they wouldn't be doing radio tests/checks all morning.

Now for the last few hours they've been coming in crystal clear!! Finally!
