Afternoon lads. I was talking with a FF from 18E yesterday about the towers and he mentioned that one might go to 45. So, apparently there is a Station 45 now which he said is in the area of the Fire Academy. I'm heading out there later today to see if I can find anything.

This is a quote from the 2021 annual report; As of January 2022, the CFD does not anticipate any new stations to open during the upcoming year, however, Belvedere Temporary Response Station No. 45, located within the East Hills Shopping Centre, is slated to be opened and operational in the first half of 2023.

I guess the new station 1 & 3 might happen in 2023/24.
This was our previous Station 45 discussion.

I believe the temporary station 45 will be opened in early summer. I would put money down that 46E or 50E will be moved to this location.

Personally I have a hard time seeing one of the new buckets being stationed that far east. The brass is going to carefully assess where these rigs end up. If I was to guess, I’d say one in the north, probably 31, another south, say 19 or maybe 39 and I bet one ends up central like; 11, or back at 23. Who knows? The bosses may decide to put one at at Station 1.

Have a great weekend!

Engine 45 will be getting there own Engine. Engines 46-50 and 60 are all extra Engines that are meant to cover other Engines during training, extended calls, etc... but are also located where they are because of the high call volume they face in there assigned districts.

This is what looks like the new station 45 in Belvedere. Located along 84th street, by the Staples/ shopping complex. It reminds me of Station 42 in Tuscany. I do wonder why CFD is going with 2 bay stations now?Image 31.jpeg

Do you think CFD might send a Ladder there? I'm guessing that area of Calgary is going to need aerial coverage now.

Hard to say.. all the Rescues are supposed to be converted to Ladders and 4 ladders added to the overall fleet. So that's 21 Ladder companies in operation by the end of 2024-2026? There could be one out there but will have to see, the nearest Ladder would be located at 12 or 25. Assuming Ladders/Towers are located there

This is interesting. An interview with the Chief, and his assessment of 2022 and somewhat of an outlook for the near future. One point he makes, city council has funded staffing the current ladders/towers from two to four firefighters. He also specifically states he wants to leave the service in better shape for his replacement.

With the current rescue fleet being converted to ladders, this will open up all sorts of possibilities for the service. With the return of the downtown MRU, I bet we may see Rescue Engines (squads)

Here is a link to the interview.

Haha turn into a current Vancouver fleet! It will be very interesting to see what happens, there will be 6 extra Rescues plus spares.. Will CFD sell these trucks, convert a couple of them into Tech Rescue Supports?, convert two or three into Airlights? will have to wait and see

I’d agree, things are going to be interesting. In the time it will take to order and build new Ladders, the current equipment will age. The spare fleet will be updated, some stuff will be sold off. I expect they may convert some of the Rescues into various types of Emergency Support Units, or second pieces.

The High Rise with its touts will require either a lift gate or a ramp. Toronto Fire now runs two High Rise Units, and they are a very simple design. FDNY is looking at replacing their two High Rise Units with some sort of combination engine rescue thing.

Do we know if the HazMat's are going to be staffed up?

Currently HazMat's are staffed with 3. I honestly don't know if there is a 4th seat in the HazMat units. I'll have to look at the specs again.

Anyone have a run down of the house explosion/fire call in the NE right now? Obviously 12, 10, 23, 4 stations. Has it made it to a 3rd alarm?

Hey guys. Any idea what happened to 12E? It's been running a spare since December and when I took a look at the Wiki, it showed that it's rotating/running 20's old Engine. Any idea what's up?

I've also noticed that 1E has also been running a spare for a bit now. Since mid January, I believe.
Sorry I missed this. It seems Engines 12, 4, 1 and Hazmat 17 have all been in Spare rigs for sometime. This could be from apparatus accidents. From parts being delayed to replace whatever is broken on the trucks, or warranty work being done on the trucks. Even possibly (in the Engine's case) they are getting new Engines and there's issues with putting in the radios or some other equipment.

It was a 4th alarm and from my understanding, it was treated as a Mass Casualty situation due to I think 4 houses engulfed and clearing the area along with all the debris. Its a very unique incident, I never thought I'd see and the turnout was something else (all Mobile Command trucks responded at one point, CFD, CPS and AHS) and there's 10 people seriously injured. This is according to the news.

Do you know what's in the CFD's high-rise totes? Or what each Toronto unit carries to scene? Just saw Toronto got a 70 m Bronto, cool.

Do you know what's in the CFD's high-rise totes?
It's been a few years since I've been able to step into the Highrise truck and I've never taken any pictures of the inside, but there was 6-8 steel carts on wheels (possibly more) - I would say they're similar to what flight attendants would use on an airplane to wheel coffee and snacks up and down the isle - a little 2x2 box that's maybe 4ish feet high? Each tote has a different purpose. 1 for rehab, 1 for command?, 1 for forceable entry, 1 for salvage, 2 for hose, 1 or two for SCBA bottles?

Didn't 12E's main at the Academy right now?
That's what it says on FireWiki, but I don't know what's at the training grounds.. Another reason why the high call volume front line Engines might be using rotation Spare Engine is to get more use out of the 2010's before they're sold off. CFD has like 18 spare Engines right now?

And the idea is these carts go up a high rise elevator to support the fire fighters working on a specific floor?
