It's been a few years since I've been able to step into the Highrise truck and I've never taken any pictures of the inside, but there was 6-8 steel carts on wheels (possibly more) - I would say they're similar to what flight attendants would use on an airplane to wheel coffee and snacks up and down the isle - a little 2x2 box that's maybe 4ish feet high? Each tote has a different purpose. 1 for rehab, 1 for command?, 1 for forceable entry, 1 for salvage, 2 for hose, 1 or two for SCBA bottles?

That's what it says on FireWiki, but I don't know what's at the training grounds.. Another reason why the high call volume front line Engines might be using rotation Spare Engine is to get more use out of the 2010's before they're sold off. CFD has like 18 spare Engines right now?
So I talked to a friend of mine who's Dad is a Captain with the CFD and he confirmed that 12E's main is indeed at the academy right now. Why? I have no earthly idea.

And the idea is these carts go up a high rise elevator to support the fire fighters working on a specific floor?
Yes, although I can't speak for CFD operations, I've heard about other departments bringing tools, equipment, carts, etc.. up to the floor below or two floors below the fire floor and setting up the command post, rehab, staging for firefighters/EMS, etc.

Everything/everyone is closer than just waiting in the lobby. I would imagine CFD runs a similar operation, it would make sense. Remember though, every call and every highrise is different.
Like I mentioned before there is a "overhaul/salvage cart" on the Highrise Unit, it could be very handy bringing that up to the fire floor after the fire or even during a flood call in a highrise.

Maybe 12E is supposed to get a new 2021 engine and their main is going to 45. But there is some sort of backlog at Fleet Maintenance trying to get a new engine out for 12E. Is that what you mean?

They're waiting for Stn 45 to be completed. 12E might be providing temporary coverage in the area in the interim. I dunno.

That could be a possibility, although I feel like 22 might provide coverage for that area because they can take 52nd St. That's just an idea.

I can’t speak for CFD, however TFS high rise units stage their gear usually on the floor below the fire. The totes are similar to the CFD types, handles with wheels. The are mainly high rise packs. I have also seen SCBA bottles in rolling cages designed to roll into an elevator and stage. The will put the empty bottles into and empty cage. Does CFD have any gear staged in the Calgary Tower? TFS has a bunch of stuff staged in the CN Tower.

I was at the garage fire in Ogden this morning. The usual suspects arrived; E9, E25 and E39. 25 is running a spare ladder, I haven’t seen the Bronto in awhile. R39 and Haz39 and Air/Light 4 showed up. The A/L was using a spare rescue. FRP and a pair of DCs rounded out the scene.

Crews made pretty short work of the event.

If anyone is interested I have a buddy who’s a Toronto Fire dispatcher, I can see if he has any pics or information on the TFS high rise rigs.

If you mean the 1998 tandem-steer Bronto HLA, that's long, long gone.

Cool concept. I wonder if a "fire support" apparatus has ever been considered where the cart contents can be accessed from within the truck compartments for house fires, or the carts can be removed for high rise operations. Could have carts for fans, lighting, salvage, hose, etc.

I'll try this one more time, bare with me.

Calgary used to hold an event called Disaster Alley every year in May. Most recently it was in the McMahon Stadium parking lot. It was a showcase for disaster relief services within the City and Province, and the CFD was heavy featured - usually displaying several types of apparatus. It was canceled during COVID.

I was hoping it would come back this year, but I haven't been able to find any information, so I am not optimistic.

Does anyone have any information about this event one way or the other?

If it comes back this year, we probably wont hear anything until mid/late April

Do you have any scene pictures!?! A bit of a run for 39 Station. We might not ever see the baby Bronto return to 25, the chiefs might just get rid of it at this point.

Once the 3 new Towers come on line the Bronto's should be gone, I really hope the 100' RM Smeal Tower at 19 Station is kept as a spare and one of the 2011 Smeal Spares is put into service so there would be 12 Ladders/Towers in service. Maybe run it out of Station 4; take some pressure off of Ladder 1 and have a Ladder as part of the Hazmat task force at station 4 instead of the Airlight

I’m a 100% with Mr. Engine 4. I imagine T19 will become a spare, and the city won’t have any trouble selling the two remaining Bronto platforms. With plans to double the ladder/tower fleet, we might see alternating single engine houses then an engine ladder house across the city. I’m hoping we might see some sort of air light, high rise, emergency support units. Maybe on modified rescue chassis. Just a thought…

I'd love to see that as well! Especially with supply issues and cost of new apparatus right now. I'd love to see some of the Rescues repurposed.

Pretty sure Full 12, 22, 4, 32 and 23 for sure went along with FRP7 most likely.
18E was also there. Maybe 48E or 1L were also there since it was a 4th alarm. Maybe 17H also went. I don't know I could ask my friend who was there for the full response.

Alright lads I got it from him. The response to the Marlborogh house explosion. Here we go.

Love it! Thank you, Ladder 1 was on scene and they had there ladder pipe operating with a supply from Engine 4? I think Engine 1 replaced 23 on the second alarm. Surprised Engine 18 made it in! I believe Engines 48,49 made it in briefly as well as other Engines. Typically there should be 3 on the first alarm, 2 on every alarm after that, but still a good run down :)

36 Firefighters were added to the ranks yesterday; in the article Station 45 is said to be open "in the next few weeks" which will probably take 2 more months or so to open, based on what the building looks like right now. Maybe Engine 12's old rig (possibly new Engine 45?) will be in operation running out of the training grounds in the next week? or out of 25? Either way it will be exiting to see Engine 45 in service soon!

Thanks for sharing that article, it was an encouraging read. The 36 graduates is equivalent to 9 additional members per shift, so that’s your E45 and a few extra for staffing levels.

Nice to know everything is in order for the opening of Station 45.

If 12E's main might go to 45 guess this means 12E is going to get a 2021 engine? There's like 3 of these 2021 engines awaiting deployment right?

E12 is a pretty busy rig, it’s probably safe to say that 12 will get a new rig, and its former will end up being assigned somewhere.
