Hearing "Medic-Engine 41" today, just temporary or is it permanent?

I asked the Fire Chief and he stated that it is permanent. They had reassigned equipment and supervisors who were paramedics to accomplish this with no cost to the taxpayer.

Seems that they have stoped the 7AM special information broadcast listing all the units out of service. The list must be too big to put over the radio ;)

Sounds like the are having volunteer chiefs run as safety officers.

Chief 19 (Cape Saint Claire) responding to an accident with two subjects heavily trapped down in South County.

Well it looks like there will be a new County Fire Chief and a new County Police Chief. Will be interesting to see who Schuh chooses.

A bit unrelated, but two questions:

1. P25 ever going to happen on FD channels?
Stumbled across a RFP from AA county earlier today looking for a consultant to define and build a new P25 compliant system for the County. The contract was to have started for the winner of the contract o/a November 1 and be done in several phases. The phases appear to be expected to last 6 months (assess), 3 months (design), ~1 year (procure), and 1 1/2 years (implementation).

The County is on an accelerated schedule to deploy the new radio system in advance of
End-of-Life technical support challenges that occur for significant portions of the system
on January 1, 2017

2. Do current FD channels seem scratchy to everybody? I always have full signal strength anywhere in the county, but the scratchiness is omnipresent and annoying. Is this caused by the multicast nature of the system?

They have for me lately.....

Great find Troymail!

The scratchiness/low volume might be because they have been in the RCC for the past week or so. Whenever they are in the RCC, the dispatchers always have a lower volume and alot of background noise (lots of people in a small room!).

Noticed during the past hour or so a lot of static and "odd sounds" on 154.01 mhz.

Maybe ARINC will win this one. They could still spec Motorola equipment, like they do with projects around the world.

Fire Alarm has been on condition yellow this morning. It appears they are still at the RCC, anyone know why they have been there for the past couple weeks?

At about 920, Fire Alarm went on Condition Red. Noticed a lot of static again on 154.01. Not sure if the condition red is related to that?

1054: Fire Alarm is off of Condition Red "But due to radio maintenance, all stations must monitor Alpha on Portable Radios."

Probably all related to the reason for being at the alternate site

Anybody know how the status messaging system works? Is there a separate data channel, or are the messages embedded in the current voice channel or control channel? Some systems seem to have a data tg/channel, but I don't see one for AACo.
