Who is Safety 5? Does that position use some sort of accountability software?

Safety 5 (Safety Officer) at Waugh Chapel Station (Station 5). Some volunteer chiefs are also running as "Volunteer Safety Officers."

It was interesting to hear Shock Trauma Go-Team responding to the a call earlier in Pasadena. I didn't know they had Anne Arundel radios.

Even more interesting on that call was the the first arriving units seemed to be treating the incident as minor. When the Batt Chief arrived and took command, he called for a 2nd rescue unit and then go the go team started (smart given the ETA).

Yes. Found it interesting to hear a shock trauma go team show up on echo tac channel while mobile enroute to the accident scene and talk directly with paramedics/battalion chief.

I've lived in Anne Arundel county for 25 years and never heard a mobile shock trauma go team, though if it was going to happen it didn't surprise me they could talk on AA's system. Everybody can. Wonder if they were in a proprietary JHU unit or a city ambulance. They would all have comms for AA. It sounded like the patient was alert even though in rough physical shape and that they were planning to rendezvous enroute to Shick Trauma. With the other activity going on I lost track of whether that actually happened.

I think it was the first time I've ever heard the Go Team directly on the radio as well. The thing that made it unusual today was the fact they were traveling by land. Normally, those comms would go through SYSCOM and the Trooper carrying the team.

Ground travel definitely made the comms interesting. In looking at what I wrote down at the time, the unit ID for the responding Shock Trauma unit was 5405 on the AASystem.

If it would have been a city unit it would have an ID on the 33000 series. 29000 for Howard, 38000 for PG, 3000 series for Calvert, and I forget Queen Anne and the others for now, etc.

The fact it had a unit ID programmed in of 5405 seems to make it a proprietary JH Shock Trauma emergency unit, apparently well equipped to talk on any of the local systems similar to Syscom helicopters. Wonder when the last time it was used. I listen to the city and county and never heard it on those systems either.

Was the Go Team a Ped unit from JHU? I think it was from Shock Trauma, which is affiliated with UMMS. Anyway, I would think that the team is issued portables that have zones for all the 800 systems in the area - just a guess. Both teens (twins BTW) were released later today - which is interesting considering that their conditions were initially described as "serious" and "critical," respectively. It took 20 minutes to extricate the boy, and the girl took an hour, and had at least a tib-fib fracture. Good news that they are back at home. AACo schools made the wrong call about remaining open. It was very bad on the roads this morning, not because of the road conditions, but because of the drivers and the volume of traffic. Bad mix.

I'll also add that MIEMSS is across Pratt Street from Shock Trauma, and they have vehicles and a slew of different radios...

It was from UMMS Shock Trauma. I mis-spoke there. Was initially trying to determine if the unit they used was a city or county unit, as opposed to a stand alone unit from Shock Trauma itself, having never heard them on the road before on any local trunked system. It is surprising news that both victims, especially the female, have been released after listening to the hour long apparently difficult extrication. From the news it sounds like Fairfax did exactly the same thing with schools and had the same result. You can't plow in the middle of rush hour. Everyone knew the storm was arriving right before and during rush hour.

UMMS has an ambulance / helicopter transport service called "Express Care" which operates sophisticated neonatal transport units as well as critical care inter-hospital ambulances and PHI-contracted helicopters which are allegedly decked out with advanced equipment and meds. Maybe they utilized one of the ambulances and took a portable from MIEMSS with them... IDK.

Whatever the case it is not a solution that is used every day like this instance. When the dispatcher said "Shock Trauma is coming up on echo" it got my attention. Good to know this type of thing is available.

The physicians who respond on the Shock Trauma Go Team are orthopedic surgeons. The team consists of an orthopedic surgeon and Certified registered nurse anesthetist. Some of the orthopedic surgeons have a black SUV which is loaded with equipment, lights, sirens and radio(s). That surgeon may be responding separate from the ambulance or helicopter bringing the anesthetist (always responds from STC) i.e. when the surgeon on the call is not at the hospital and/or picks up the call due to his/her proximity.

Looks like the radio designation "Quality Improvement" (QI) has run its's course and are about to return to being "EMS" officers.... Also expect to hear a heavier support response on working fire dispatches in non-hydrant areas... pretty much will be a 2nd alarm (not a bad idea).

Part of the problem is that apparatus tends to block access if there are many units responding - this has been a perennial problem in the fire service. It's almost like there should be a logistics officer assigned immediately to multiple alarm incidents to bring some order to staging.

Interesting on both accounts. For the EMS officer, I wonder how that will work. EMS Supervisors used to run more calls (cardiac, medical calls, being an additional ALS provider, etc.) than what QI's have been running (usually only if requested or they assign themselves).

Good idea with the upgraded WFD. More water on the road early is a great thing.

I have noticed more especially on non-hydrant areas when they go to a 2nd Alarm or above that command assigns a Staging officer and they switch to an alternative talkgroup to manage the "base."

AACo Fire is currently on "Condition Blue." Does anyone have a list of the different condition color codes for AA Co Fire?
