Thanks for your reply. The brand new $69.95 Butel software does not have the demo version listed. I have the ARC 996T registration codes but they are of no use since they have to be entered in the demo version. I was given a address that was supposed to be where I can get the demo version which is :http:www.butel.nl/download.html. However, it sent me to a Uniden page which listed all the scanners available for purchase with the software!!!! Of course, that is useless for me. Guess I'm stuck because I haven't got a reply from Butel regarding my issue.

Just send an email to Butel. I always receive a quick response. Did you purchase the CD or download version? If you purchased the download or CD from Butel, it may already be registered. Go to the Help tab and click on About. If it says full version, the software is already registered and you are good to go. If you don't see Register under the Help tab, the software is probably already registered. You will need the keys if a Windows update unregisters the software or you install it on another computer. Keep the keys in a safe place in case you need them.

I sent an email to Butel yesterday but see nothing in my email yet. I purchased the download version. Last time I clicked on help it sent me to the Uniden scanner page, but this time I'll click on about. I got the keys a few days ago but could not use them cuz no demo was there.
OK, if I see full version in the about section will it then ask me for the keys automatically? And if I don't see Register under the help tab about section the software is probably already registered and will it then ask for the keys?

If you see full version when you go to the Help tab and click on About, the software is registered and there is nothing else to do. There is no need to enter the keys if it is already registered. You may have clicked on Open Software Manual which shows this: ARC996 for BCD996T. My ARC996 software shows full version and there is no provision for entering the keys. Well, I see the scanner is scanning but don't hear any action. The simulcast is indicating ID search. I did hear the conventual analog FM frequency of 155.085mHz pop up so that is something! I took a look at the system frequencies and noticed 853.2625 is the control frequency and verified it and the other alternate frequencies are listed in the scanner. However, when I selected the control frequency manually, I did not hear the characteristic loud buzzing that usually accompanies an active control channel. That being the case the scanner doesn't know what to do. But when I entered 853.375 in my conventual FM scanner, heard the buzz which indicates it is active! Therefore, I think RR primary control channel is not correct and should be 853.375. Problem is that the scanner does have 853.375 programmed in yet does not recognize it as a control channel, hence no activity again. Any ideas???

Well my 996P2 stopped transmitting Charles about a week or two ago. Calvert and St. Marys are fine. Turned on the old 796D and Charles is coming in fine. Makes no since. Gotta be a 996 problem.

Doubtful. Nothing has changed in the SmartNet protocol, but the control channel did roll. 99% chance that you have not programmed all control channels into the radio.

Yep, I already confirmed that all the frequencies are unlocked as indicated on the screen.

Go to the BCD996T tab and click on Send Data. I am also including a PDF file which will answer all of your questions about using quick keys. Charles Co MD is on system quick key 1. All of the groups also have quick keys. I also have a FreeSCAN file.
