Looks like possibly the start of THP radio network as Districts: 1 (Knoxville), 2 (Chattanooga), 3 (Nashville), and 5 (Fall Branch) are supposed to go 800mHz P25 first.

I understand the state of Tennessee, plans on calling this radio system something other than the TVRTS. Does anyone know what the new name is?

Yep, these are the new THP Phase-2 TDMA sites to fill in areas where the TVRCS existing sites don't cover. Noticed from licenses these are two frequency trunking sites that with TDMA 2 slot technology will allow two conversations per channel. Unfortunately there are no scanners on market today that will allow you to hear this.
Also licenses lately have been showing some of existing TVRCS sites have been adding frequencies to handle more capacity.
THP is also supposed to be using VHF hi band sites with P25 Phase 2 technology as their APX radios will be dual band and will scan for best signal.
According to a THP press release last year the Chattanooga, Knoxville and Fall Branch districts will be on lone in October. Wonder if they make that time table?

I have been told, from a reliable source, that the State is installing a new tower on Keith Springs Mountain, which is in Fanklin County, and in the Chattanooga THP district. Do you possibly have any information about this? It may be a part of the TVTRS.

Got a good report that Site-127 at TN Towers, is now Site-128, and has shifted to 700 MHz, to avoid some RFI issues on 800 MHz. Can some in the Nashville area do a search and find the new frequencies? Thank you!

If everybody approves sharing the system it would give roaming compatibility to users on the TVRCS in Dade, Walker, Catoosa and Whitfield counties. If approved by system managers that would mean Rome/Floyd units could use the other system when in the area of if there was a major event. And vice versa, users on the TVRCS would be able to stay in touch when in the Rome/Floyd area. But here's a question RomeRon...is the Rome system going to expand and become regional to eventually include other NW Georgia counties?

The Rome / Floyd county system will never at least for the foreseeable future expand out of Floyd county. None of the adjacent counties has the funds to deploy such a system. They spent a lot of time talking about tying into the Chattanooga system so sell it in the SPLOST. How often is a floyd county unit going to be involved in something in Walker county? How much did that cost?

Hello BG, thanks for the reply to my post.

I know Harris Corp talked about an ABC triangle (Atlanta, Birmingham and Chattanooga) in their sales pitch to Rome for the new system.

Two more hospitals have joined the TVRCS. Hutchison Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe, GA is 1565. And Skyridge Medical Center in Cleveland, TN is 5534. Both are for EMS to ED comms. They've been submitted to the database.

It actually could save money depending on how they did it. Floyd Co, could use the switch (think of it as a trunked radio "brain") located in Chattanooga and not have to spend their money buying a new switch themselves.

Converting from old to new

There are some old TGs listed on the Chat-Hamilton CO Pulic Safety page that do not show up on the TVRS list of talkgroups.

One in particular is the TG of the TDOT Help Trucks. The old Chat-Hamilton Co PS site lists the TG as 33072. However, it isn't found on the TVRS site.

1. Did all agencies migrate over?

2. Is there a simple formula to recalculate the new TG number if the old one is known?

No, there is no formulation to calculate what the TGid will be when an agency goes from the old system to the new ... They just have to use what the system management assigns and programs in their radios. As for what is in the db: We list what gets submitted to us, whether its from a person with a scanner that figured out what that tg was being used for, or from "inside, anonymous" sources that work with the system, or an agency on it etc. Apparently no one has ID'ed the TG's for the HELP units yet, or TDOT has not migrated to the new system yet. If your running a scanner with wildcard capabilities, then set up a wildcard search. Or if your running one that can't do wildcards, then spend some quality time searching in "open" mode and nab new TG's that aren't listed, ID them, and submit them. TY in advance for doing that if you do. If not, just be patient, someone will eventually submit that data.

Yes, there is in fact a formula to calculate most talk group IDs from the analog site to TVRCS P25 system. Divide the analog talkgroup ID by 16 to get the P25 ID. You will find almost all of the talkgroups assigned to Chattanooga and Hamilton County work this way.
There are exceptions, like the counties outside Hamilton County and the state groups. For example, Bradley County groups are in the 5500 range, Rhea County are 7000 range, Catoosa County in the 2000 range, Walker County 13500 range, etc.
As far as TDOT HELP units go they are still predominately using VHF low band and occasionally use a digital group on the analog/digital mixed mode system to chit chat. They haven't yet migrated to the TVRCS yet.
The Chattanooga simulcast cell is only assigned to 10 frequencies at the moment. So with one being a control channel that only leaves 9 available voice repeaters to handle all traffic for Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Dade-Walker-Catoosa counties in Georgia and Rhea, Meigs and Bradley counties on the Hamilton County borders. Not many available paths when everybody needs to talk so until more capacity is added the system can't handle a whole heckuva lot more.

Thanks for info on a formula. Would that work out for any switch from an Motorola to P-25?
