Looking at an SDS100 for sale on fb marketplace right now.

Are there any specific things I should check on the scanner prior to buying it? Any settings/features that would be a dealbreaker?

Vette the seller. With things like:

1. Locality(buy only local, so; you can meet the seller)
2. PayPal(or not; PayPal will help if you get scammed)
3. Largest SD Card(32GB) capable
4. What year was the SDS100 released(2018)

it’s in person and I’m not worried about it being a fake listing. I’m asking if there’s anything specific on the device I should make sure to check other than that it actually turns on and works.

lets start with what price are you looking to pay? Now that the SDS150 is available I personally would not pay more than $425 with no upgrades for the sds100. I've seen some with DMR/NXDN for $500 here in the classifieds. Just a word of advice

It’s listed for $350 with everything that originally came in the box, “used a few times.”

I’ve listening to scanners for 20+ years but always the base model RadioShack ones and the Uniden SR30C most recently. Just finally looking to upgrade my game to be able to listen to P25 groups. So I’m looking at this as a considerable upgrade even with the 150 recently released.

I would look at the battery, any signs of swelling could be a problem down the line and you will be forced to buy a new one which will add $$ to that $350. Good luck with your purchase

If I was in the need for a 4th SDS100 I would take a chance for $350 even if I had to have it repaired for $100 I would still be cheaper than used SDS100's are selling for here in the Classifieds.

And with a price that fair, you have some room to buy a spare battery and external charger if you’d wish, and still not be in too deep.

I would definitely ask him to have it ready so you could listen/ hear the audio before you bought it.
