If your listing says DMR, you are out of luck as almost all scanners do not receive DMR. It sort of sounds like a buzzing when you first lock on. DMR is an effectively a cheaper way of getting encryption without going to a p25 system. Many casinos have gone to DMR . Its digital but Uniden and GRE/RS/Whistler do not decode, yet...
Assuming the DMR user is not encrypted, great DMR "scanners" can be had for a little over $100. Sure, the usual antiquated consumer scanner brands haven't seen fit to make a DMR scanner yet, but you can just buy a DMR radio (MD380 for example, which is selling for $110 right now at ConnectSystems with software and cable). It may be a little harder to program yourself than just downloading RR data directly into your Uniden scanner, but the good news is once you get it set up, the radio will work and sound SO much better than your usual consumer scanner toys.
I was thrilled when the public safety agencies where my mountain house is located switched to DMR. It meant I had to spend a couple hundred bucks on a DMR radio, but for that I get so much better sound, durability, reliability, sensitivity, range, etc. than my "scanners" ever provided. And, unlike my Uniden scanners, on my DMR radios I can switch channels and talk on ham bands, etc.
And yes, there are even ways to use a $110 DMR radio to monitor a DMR trunking system too (not perfect, but works pretty darn good).
