CHP Los Angeles issues

Why am I only picking up the East LA (yellow 3) on my scanner when I have the rest of the dispatch channels programmed? Did they deprecate the other channels or move them?

From the West San Fernando Valley I am reliably copying LA Comm Center: TEAL2 (of course), TAN3, BROWN2 and BLACK2. Copyable but weaker signal YELLOW3, PINK2, ORANGE3, GOLD2. I can also copy PURPLE up in Moorpark; and GRAY1 down in Westminster.

BCD996P2 with a VHF-High 1/4 wave ground plane outdoors at 20 feet.

I'm using a BCD325P2. It's not that I can't pick anything up, it's just I can ONLY pick up East LA (yellow 3)

If you have the channel programmed with a PL tone, try taking the tone out.
Besides CHP (which is low band) can you receive anything else like NOAA weather (162.550)?

Yes, the 325 has low band range. I'll try to remove the tone.

Low Band is hard to receive on a little handheld scanner antenna. You something like a mobile antenna for this band or a ground plane antenna up high at home.

I would expect with your setup to only to be able to one or two on the closest divisions.

Gotcha. I’m located in Studio City so would yellow 3 be the channel for that area? Not really familiar with station jurisdictions.

You need a suitable antenna to pick up (VHF low band) CHP unless you have great "line of sight".

You're in West Valley Division (56), right on the west border of Altadena Division (98).
Also plug in the Southern Blue for pursuits and other events. You really need at least a low band rubber duck for decent reception. An outside antenna cut for low band is best. You don't need to bother with the PL tones at all.

Really? From where I am in Yorba Linda (about a mile West of the Nixon Library), CHP sounds about the same as it has over the last 15 years I have been in the city. Santa Ana, Westminster, San Juan Cap, Baldwin Park, Altadena, Riverside and of course the Blue all boom here. I don't listen much to the other LA Commcenter channels, but they have been good to great with my little peanut whistle antenna 15' in the air.

As it should. Narrowbanding affected 150-174MHz and 450-470MHz (with some exceptions, and of course the matter of T band).

Lowband never went narrowband, so it should sound correct in wideband mode.

I never had good results while trying to monitor CHP from a vehicle without an outside antenna. A CB antenna works pretty well for me.

that CB antenna put a decent amount of metal out there to capture the low band signals...
